Hi All, Update time, so in brief, having planked up to issue 28 and closed the lower hull,I went onto the gallery parts we received earlier. To make sure the rear panel of the gallery was flush to the top of the frame, I clamped a piece of balsa on top and fitted the rear panel to butt up against it. Pic 1: Then it was a case of making sure the back panel was straight and clamping it in place, belt and braces here to make sure it didn`t move. Pic 2: The side panels were next (these pics also show dummy gun supports),clamping these also included some wedges under the clamp faces due to the curvature of the framework. Pic 3+4: Next a pic of the length of the dummy gun supports. Pic 5: Having had a short break from planking, yep, back to planking. The good bit was, no serious bends and/or twists required. . So three layers of planks followed and here is the results to date. Pic 6+7: I am at this point saving the gun construction for a later date, with the intent of getting the planking finished and when I have regained my sanity ,I will have a bulk cannon building session. That`s all folks, Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Regards Alan Hi Alan, Thanks for looking in, it`s nice to get to the point where the planking gets easier. Not so much bending and twisting. I am actually looking forward to the sanding process to see how smooth I can get it and then the task of cutting the gun ports. Planking has been a long exercise, but I have learnt a lot on how to look at a hull shape and this will hopefully help with future builds. As this is the first time I`ve done this bit, do you sand and then find the low spots or do you give a leveling skim of filler and then sand? This may seem like a silly question, but to the newbie it could make a lot of difference, as in time taken to finish this particular task. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) Never any silly questions Derek, it is how we gain knowledge.... ... I started off by using a fairly course grade sanding to get the basic smoothness, the bamboo will take quite a lot of sanding....Then I skimmed the whole hull with filler, mainly to fill in between the planks where the rounded edges of the bamboo are joined... You will soon see the little low and high spots as you move onto the finer sanding grades..... Hope this helps... Regards Alan

Hi Derek another trick I find that works well os spraying a fine coat of undercoat then sanding down to a reasonable thickness then filling the low spots spaying again and then a final sand. Hope this helps. Great build so far. Peter Builds in progress: HMS Victory.HMS Surprise. Completed builds: Revell London Bus 1/24. Builds to do:Sovereign of the seas, Hms Albion.

Got to wait for the next delivery to finish the very top bit of the planking though. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"
