Hello shipmates,

another day at the shipyard.

issue #41:

After unpacking I found THIS:
One part was not like it was supposed to be.
Took a bit of cutting, gluing and sanding to make it fit.

The bottoms of the gallery sides still have a little gap, couldn't get it closer.
Will this be an issue ???

issue #42:

The wales

I found it quite difficult to attach the wales, because the magazine did not tell precisely where to attach them.
So I started with the middle wale and just fixed it with nails (no glue yet) and start shaping it into position.
Then I attached the second line of planks below. These where glued and nails.
Afterwards I removed the first line and glued it back again.
The "swing" of the wale look okay for me.
The 1x5 mm planks are extremely brittle and start to frazzle very easy.

To be continiued......

Not yet mate. Looks like it has not being published in Germany so far. Also haven't found a german branch of eaglemoss yet. But I dropped them an email. See want happens.
That is a model I've always been looking for, especially in that big scale.

But first I have to get on with this one anyway ;-)

Why not simply buy the donor model the partwork version was spawned from which is far better quality and has a far better content

Thanks Mr.T,

will keep that in mind.
Looks pretty similar and the price is okay too.

But to be honest, even if it is more expensive, I really like the idea of a patchwork kit like our victory. I presume that they have the more detailed assembly guide (correct me if not) and I truly enjoy it joining a group of people doing the same thing, sharing there builds and helping each other. As this is my first ever wooden ship model, it is a big advantage for me.

.. as long as the quality is alright.

Hello shipmates,

it's four months ago I paused work on my Vic. Finally found time to continue the build.

issue #43:

Finishing the whales. Still not happy with the color of the stain.

issue #44:

This bottle of wine had the exact diameter for the decorative strip of the bow. Took me a lot of bottles to find out.BigGrin

To copy the "flow" of the first strip (left), I marked its position with folderback clamps before gluing the second strip (right).

issue #45:

My first attempt to plank like in the instructions of the magazine. But during the work I remembers Darrons post about the gap beeing too wide here. So I made them smaler. Orininally the gap had a width of seven planks, I reduced it to five. See if it works.

Hi Timm! Cool

Look's GREAT! I'm happy you made the change to the upper deck opening’s at this point, now that is the easy way to do it! just think what it was like to find out after fitting the quarter deck.

A 25mm wide opening is just about right for the narrower grates but if you need to open it a little more after the grates are made then that's simple.

The wine bottle idea is the best idea yet! I take it you have to drink the bottle first before testing it with a plank to check the shape of it curve just in case the bottle tips over and makes a mess!

Great to see you building again Timm! ThumpUp

issue #46:

a flexible steel ruler, jammed between a desktop lamp and the model, is great tool to softly press the tiny plank bits against the other planks while the glue is drying.

the stained deck.... even though the planks are free of pva and slightly sanded, the planks don't get stained well. Maybe I have to it a second or third time.

issue #45 reloaded:

I am rebuilding the second deck from scratch. Tom's build convinced me to do it his way.
Started with some leftover beechwood-sticks 8x8 mm as support and some 4 mm plywood. Planked with 0,5 mm walnut veneer. Still a bit messy, I haven't sanded and oiled it yet.
Now the height of the cannons seems to be correct.
A lot of work but worth the try.

During the work I had the idea of already adding the threads for the gunport lids (15 cm thread each gunport), as the holes won't be accessible later on. Hopefully this will save me a lot of tricky work. If not, the y can be easily remove.
For the lowest deck it's too late now, but I will continue this whit the gunports to come.
Good idea ? Bad idea ?

To be continued......
