Thanks Alan, i have drilled the gun port 2mm holes now and using a ruler as a parallel guide i have found that the holes are going through the top of the side supports and not the gun supports that were glued on top is this ok or do i have a problem thanks

The 2mm hole you drill needs to sit in the centre of the gun port so when you fit the dummy guns they are central. Place cocktail sticks into the holes, this will give you an idea on how your guns will line up on that deck...

Post a couple of pics so I can see what you have done....

Alan

hi here is a quick update of my progress, i have got to the stage of starting the lower planking, only concearn i have at the moment and its not really a problem, is that i am worried about my template for the rear gallery. I cut it out from the book so i dont doubt it accuracy but when transferred to my model i have doubts about lining it up correctly. i have studied photos and the video build, so my plan is to not cut it back until it comes to fitting the gallery. anyway here are some pics of my progress so far. oh the gun ports are a bit messy im not really happy with them but after the linings are fitted im sure it will tidy them up. cheers

Hi Delboy thankyou for the diary medal and the comment, i certainly dont compare to the amazing clean builds i see here from other members but as a first serious attempt im quite happy with the progress, i still have my Hermione that needs planking but i will do victory first as it should give me some understanding. best regards

Hi Pfcdre,

I wouldn’t worry too much about the gallery template. I say this from my own experience.
I had the same concern, try to align it always in the right position/angle.
Then when the gallery side and rear walls were fitted later on, I realized that the planks need to be cut back quite a lot (3-4 cm) at the top (approx 5-6 top planks at your photos) and the middle section (8-10 shorter planks below the long ones) will be covered by the gallery side walls.
So don’t worry if you don’t follow the template precisely.
Happy building!
Laszlo

She's coming along very nicely. Don't see any problems with you leaving the stern planks slightly longer for trimming back later in the build.....Cool Cool

thanks guysBigGrin means a lot coming from experienced builders such as yourselves, i seem to be overcoming problems that prevented me from finishing a previous attempt ie Mantua Golden Star, the support on here and the detailed instructions both written and video are really helping to develop the skills required to tackle other models which is great, i have the stern planks to do next. i will post pics as soon as i complete this step. Thanks again for the support and encouragement. All the best

Hi guys just an update, i know its been sometime since my last post! but i did not give up, i am incredibly chuffed to say i finished the hull planking at last. i must admit i had quite a few months off and due to lockdown i got back to it. so i am at the poit of marking the gun port hatch positions but notice the rear rope points dont reach the wale above, i see on the video they are marked under the wale, so is this correct, i extended mine to fit the wale but i have only marked and not drilled yet, here are some pics of my progress.cheers

Hi Chris. My names Andre. i am now at the point where i need to plank the deck, but i have not drilled the holes for the gun hatch ropes, i marked them but i am not happy with the positions. if anyone has any input on this it would help. Am i right in assuming if you use the top holes on template then it should be the same for the entire row of gun hatches? i have marked so many positions now for each port that its become a confusing mess!

Hi Andre, I just want to say that spell checker certainly made a total mess of my message to you!!
My apologies. As far as the top holes to the gun ports is concerned, I have found the same as you and gone ahead and drilled the holes using the template. It's the distance above the gun port that matters.
Chris.

Little update on my build so far. I have done the poop deck and bulkhead supports. I now have some ladders to build and soon on to the bulk head caps. At what point should I consider painting the hull?I would think fairly soon.
