Thanks to all for looking in and the kind comments.
@Kev. The taping of the steering wheel is part of the kit. There's a square of fabric which has to be cut into 2mm strips and bonded on. Quite pleased with the result.

My attention has turned to the bodywork . The supplied parts are quite rough with loads of flash, mould lines and sink marks. They are made from a very poor looking red plastic. I spent quite a bit of time cleaning them up and because I want a dark red finish ( not too glossy ) I have primed them with a flat black. Malc.RM1 attached the following image(s):

The radiator is in 4 parts. I sprayed on the number 15 ( template in kit ) and gave the outside a Brass finish. Malc.RM1 attached the following image(s):

Colour coat of Tamiya TS8 ( italian red ) but the black primer has darkened it to my liking Malc.RM1 attached the following image(s):

The instructions for this build are generally clear about the order of assembly but I would recommend that if fellow builders tackle the 806 that they plan well ahead for the construction. Some of the threaded plastic parts have poorly moulded screw threads which take brass fasteners. Generally these don't fit well and there is a constant risk of breaking the plastic. Even a die nut is not effective as the parts are so delicate. ( sizes M1.4 and M2 mm ).
A typical example is the pair of brake lever arms mounted on the inside of the rear axle assembly. The instructions show these being added at a late stage once all the rear suspension is in place. that would be very stressful !! I put them on before the main assembly.

Another "silly" feature is the retention of the fuel tank on a single self tapping screw. No amount of clamping ( or hole enlarging ) stops the screw from splitting the carefully prepared tank .
I tapped the hole for an M3 and used a machine screw.

Moving ahead beautifully. I bet it will look a stunner when complete, particularly if you put it alongside some recent F1 cars...
