each plank is individually tapered and BEVELED to achieve a tight fit to each other,the bend I used the crimp plank bender tool supplied for the victory,with the blade reversed to the blunt side.the bevel I used a mini plane similar to the one that tomick showed in his official build.the only reason I am not using the bamboo it that it was supplied with rounded edges,although it will be covered up with veneer,I just didn't fancy the overall finish,the sanding down will be easier for me too.it is simply my choice at a fair amount of extra expense. btw when using the crimper,if you crimp diagonally you will get the outward twist needed to compensate for the compound bend,meaning that the bow not only bends on a horizontal plane it curves downward too. that is what causes the clinker effect. having received my stock of limewood I decided to strip off old planking and start again,having soaked the old planking first,it came off all in one piece,(phew)replaced the transome planking first,now starting the main planking. nows the time to sort the lighting,tried various leds and ended up with 3mm.leds,x12v.with a 6v.x1200ma transformer to give the right depth of glow. what's the verdict folks???    these I hope will light the gunports so it looks like light is coming from the lower gun deck,the wiring is .03mm gold jewelers wire,which I got in 6mtr. reels @ £1.75 per reel,and that traversed completely around the gundeck twice so I could solder the leds,and then exiting out the stern to connect to a socket somewhere near by.hopefully I have placed the leds next to the dummy barrels without obscuring them. Nice work there Karl, looks very good.. My only concern would be whether the led's themselves would be visible when you cut out the gun ports especially as we do not yet know the exact position of these ports. In addition, you may find the led positions could restrict the positioning of the actual gun barrels. Just my thoughts, keep up the good work....  Regards Alan

hi al,I had thought long and hard about the positioning of the leds,that is why I put them in the corner,to leave the maximum area for the barrels,and if necessary they can be moved(the barrels that is)as the leds are only 3mm.that is not a lot space,so hopefully they will be ok(fingers crossed. As this is my first build on this scale i have decided against lighting, but in return for your help the other day about decking this might interest you or anyone else into lighting their models. On the following site you can purchase a flicker unit, not one that makes all the lights flicker at the same rate but randomly via numerous outputs from the one unit.(several units available with different number of outputs).
