Hi Catain David I saw Alan covering his bow spirit with walnut sheets and decided, as I have 3.2 mm walnut available, that I would cut mine out of solid walnut. I'm in between deliveries so have some spare time available to experiment.  I didn't know that it would not be visible in the final build, but thanks for the info! Regards Kobus

Nicely done Kobus..  .. The reason I covered mine with walnut sheet was because I covered the keel to match the hull so just continued all the way rather than just simply cut it where the black starts, neater that way..... .. I am probably going to paint it black anyways..... .. Regards Alan

Neat lines on your Launch.  I am thinking of double plank the launch in Sapele. As a Newbie, I made a mess of the first try.  Its resting in a safe place to be commence on a much later date. Meanwhile am I focusing on the actual boat. I want to do all the smaller builds at once. My friend around the corner of me is also building the SOTS. I am fortunate to share consumables with him. I am at issue 19 now. I bought extra issues for the sake of stocking wood supplies. I want to buy extra figurines when they arrive here. According to the Italian forum, SOTS do have great figurines. I want to salvage some Victory figurines for my collection. If you came across them, PM me. Hi Marcel Thanks for the nice comments on the launch! Much is hiden behind the woodfiller and paint! As I was going for the painted finish on the launch I use some woodfiller to smooth out the planking. Must say I'm happy with the outcome! Regards Kobus

!!!  Update !!! Received my next four issues (16 - 19) today, with my mitre set and mini clamps! Thanks Jacklin! Started with the stern planking and it came out nicely (will post some photos tomorrow)! Must say, expected the bamboo to be much harder to work with and more knots in, unless I got a better bunch! Hi Kobus, Looking good, just one bit of advice (from my view). Your fifth plank down on the stern is bending round the stern post. I don`t think it needs removing, just a sharp knife to cut a small notch around the false keel section. This should make your second planking much easier around that area. Well done Kobus, your build is coming on smooth. Issue 20 is on the shelves at CNA. Grab an extra issue for the wood supply. Its cheaper than to order online. I admit that the first row at the bow is time consuming. I keep splitting the ends and have to start over. I noticed that some of the pins supplied, are blunt or croocked. The deck line take al lot of mini clamps and patience. I only recieved my mitre set. Hope to recieve the clamps with my next batch. Nicely done Kobus, have to agree with Derek though, cut a small notch in that 5th plank to get a better fit around the false stern post... I think if you try to sand it down as you suggest then you may find you will end up sanding through the bamboo strip.... .. Nice work though, well done..... Regards Alan

I've already got myself a copy of issue 20 as a spare. I've used a Dremel fitted with a flexible shaft and a 0.5 mm drill bit and predrill the bamboo. It worked like a charm! Regards Kobus
