Good morning from 'The Dockyard'.

Well the paint has arrived and i'm waiting for my order of rivets and weld lines to arrive from the U.S. Before these can be applied however, i still have a few more odd jobs to complete.

This weeks update on my U230 U-boat build log will be looking at making a profile to blank off the area just aft of the aft torpedo compartment, fitting part-works supplied etched brass strip to the stern and fitting the rudder mount.

First job was to fabricate, from 0.5mm thick plastic sheet, a triangular shaped piece to blank of the gap between the outside hull and the tapered inner pressure hull. See attached photo.

I then glued a backing piece to it giving the impression of a recess, similar to previous compartment profiles, filed it to suit then fitted the completed piece to the boat.

The attached photo shows the scalloped, blanking piece completed.

Moving on, the next job was to fix the part-works supplied brass strips to the stern. Using the same technique as for the bow section; sanding the underside to act as a key for the glue, filing the ends to suit the hull profiles and finally drilling and pinning with 1.0mm aluminium tube to securely fasten the strips.

The attached photo shows the first of the strips fitted prior to pinning.
