Moving on, the next job was to fit the rudder mount. In the photo you can see when it was dry fitted that there's a gap around the edges. Rather than fill these i opted to make a plastic spacer on the front section to aid fixing when glued.

Once i was happy with the fit, the next task was to drill through the body to accept a 2.0mm diameter brass rod. The rudder mount, even when glued, could be easily knocked off so pinning parts like this makes them phenomenally strong. I have used this technique throughout my build on all the major components.

The attached photo shows the hole drilled and the brass rod being test fitted to check for clearance.

I then withdrew the rod and fixed the mount with pva to the hull. I used clips to ensure it aligned correctly.

Once the pva was set after 24hrs, i back filled any gaps with superglue. From then i could confidently drill through the rest of the hull to accept the brass dowel.

I glued the dowel in place and left to set. It's now very strong and robust.

Once all was dry i then filled any gaps.
