A very nice build you have there Timm!
10/10 for perseverance, you were not happy with the gun deck and took advantage of what is available on this forum and redid it. I can see a lot of members that are early in their own builds using your redone gundeck as a practicum for themselves.
Once again very well done, and I look forward to the next update.
All the best Steve..

Hi shipmates,

after a break of several months I am finally back in the shipyard again.
The issues # 49 and # 50 kept me busy a very long time.
First I tried the way the magazine proposed. But the first cannon was rather disappointing. Doing the loops of the ropes with wire made them too long in the end, the blocks were too big and so on....

first attempt

I had to figure of something different.
The blocks were substituted with smaller ones, I used a smaller thread and wraped the breech ropes around the ends of the carriage as seen on a lot of pictures of the original Victory. The blocks are only 2 mm and sold by a german company called Krick (Krick 60859). Very hard to handle but it was worth it. All 10 cannons took me more than 20 hours in total !
Here is the result

Cheers, Timm

Hi Timm
Very nice detail there, was thinking of doing the same, but in South Africa we are a bit resticted, the closes decent hobby shop from me is 120km awayCrying not very economical!

I am facing the same problem, the next shop nearby is in, guess what, Heidelberg (the german one BigGrin ). But I order most stuff from the internet anyway. Only the small block are sold out now everywhere I look.

Cheers, Timm

Internet useless in SA, modelling not so big here, one place in Mosselbay I know of but very expensive, they are more into selling complete models, not cool!

Hi shipmates,

a little update on my build, the quarterdeck is in place now....

issues # 52

I modified the handrails a little bit.

issues # 53

The quarterdeck was not done as per magazine but from plywood sheets and 1 mm walnut strips.

The shipwheel is still buggin me. I used the improved version of MGW (left).
The assembly was a piece of cake, but I still have trouble with painting metal parts.
Even superfine sanding, cleaning with zippo gasoline, using extra tamiya metal primer spray the paint does not coat at all.Crying

The shipwheel posts were substituted by narrower ones made from leftover wallnut strips and a 12-pounder-wheel. So one can see more of the wheel once its in place.

issues # 54

After I had reed this post about doing some real caulking I wanted to give it try.
My first attempt ... did not had the right thread, too small .... had to do my own ...
hurried myself to much, and it did not satisfy me. The stuff came loose after the first sanding, so I stopped and did it the magazine way while the Queen was watching here river parade.LOL

Don't why but this time the walnut strips turn out much darker than before.
A little too dark to me, the caulking is hard to see. But I won't thear it off one more time. Hopefully I will get used to it. Still needs some oil and sanding.

Cheers, Timm

I think your work and the detail is fantastic. Don't worry about the darker wood I think it looks spectacular. Think of the colour it would be going around the Horn with heavy seas awash. It looks perfect.

Hi Timm,
Your build is looking good fantastic detail on the cannons, just curious about the darker shade can you not sand it,that would make it look not so dark, and it may look the shade you were hopping for.
Great build.

Regards trev.
