So have started the rat lines by knotting the line to the shrouds. Lets see what you think. No i am not sure now if this will look right or weather i should just take a piece of thread and glue it to the shrouds. What do you think. Regards Foz

Well only a small update. Have now finished up to issue 94 and have completed the lower foremast shrouds and ratlines. I found doing this fairly difficult, the main reason being is that the spars got in the way. If i can offer any advice to anyone that is at this stage in any build, it would be to leave the spars off the masts until the shrouds and rat lines are completed as it would make access easier. Well that's it for now. As always any comments most welcome, and happy building. Regards Foz

This is also my first time at attempting anything like this. Like you i was not looking forward to the rigging but after asking a few questions on this site and searching the net found the ways to do it. I have lost count now of the number of knots i have done on the rat lines but i think it looks ore realistic than just gluing a piece of thread across the shrouds and for some sad reason i am finding it therapeutic. Once again, only a small update. Managed to get the rest of the shrouds done and that is it. For those off you that are building this model, the only issue i found with adding the shrouds are the ones for the mizzen mast as one of the swivel guns gets in the way as it goes straight through the shrouds so i found it easier to remove these while i added the shrouds. Also, looking at the printed plans that come with this build it shows rat lines underneath the swivel gun, but in the pictures in the magazines there are no rat lines beneath the guns. SO i am a wee bit confused as to what to do. any comments and help will be greatly appreciated. Regards Foz

Hi Foz Your ratlines look very good, I am dreading this on my victory so I just took a look at the official build. It seems I have a choice of tying the knots or they have provided instructions for an "easy" method where the ratlines are actually threaded through the shrouds with a fine needle so this will do me! Looking good anyway, keep it up Steve

Looking good anyway, keep it up Steve Hi Steve. Thanks for looking in and thanks for your kind comment. As for the rat lines, after looking in to it i have found 3 methods of doing them. The magazine that come with this build gives you 2 options. The first is how i have done it by tying knots on every shroud. The other was to just place a piece of thread across the shroud and glue it in place. I decided to tie knots as this also gave the effect of the ratline being used with a slight dip but it did take some time to get them done i think it looked better, but that's just my opinion. I have also read, as you suggested that you can thread the line through the shrouds with a needle but i did not want this way so went with the pain staking way of tying loads of knots. Yes it takes longer but that is the way i have decided to do my ratlines and when i get back to the Vic i will do the same. Hope this helps Regards Foz
