Just when you think your getting somewhere, Then disaster hits, I had literaly just fixed my last plank in place, I turned the model round, and hit the bow funny shaped bit of my magnifiying lamp, and knocked it clean of the boat.Cursing

A bit of remedials required now, I was really pleased how the planks were fitting in to that bit as well. Hey Hoe, Just have to get over it.Angry

Got the remedials done to the bow, I read some where, If you don't like doing repetative tasks dont build a boat, I can agree. First it was plank plank, now all its been is sand sand. but its is all sanded now.As you can see from the picture's below.I have sanded it as good as I can and I am very happy with it, I have also washed the walnut hull with a rag soaked in white sprit, Just to clean the hull before treating it with Danish Oil, once it has been washed with the white spirits, It looks like it has had a coat of varnish,.

All the picture above taken before the white spirit wash.

It now on to the rubbing streaks

Over and out for now

I have now trimmed the bow of the ship, I have levelled the ship and marked where I want to cut it, I had to cut about 8mm of the height of the treble bow frame.

I am going to make the second deck from plywood, and plank it like I did the first deck, I will use the supports across the frames as the instructions show, This will increase the height of the deck by 2mm,( the thickness of the ply ) hope this wont cause any problems.

I am now also doing the rubbing steaks,

Thank goodness I bought that electric plank bender.

Got a bit more done now,

As you can see, the front end is looking a lot better now.

I have now also made the hatch.

Also been cutting and fitting, but not fixing the support rails for the upper deck.

Again very happy with the results.

I deceided to do a bit more. I have now transfered the mast holes from the lower deck to the upper deck, I am going to do the cut outs and plank the deck before fitting it. It looks like the masts are verticle to the keel, That is how it will be done,

Progress report. I am planking the deck on the work bench, I hope by doing this, that there will be enough of a bend in the completed deck to fit the curved shape of the ship, if not I can always soak it and bend it to shape.

As with the first deck I am using black fishing line to make the caulking detail, it worked very well on the first deck.
I have drawn the cut out on the deck and will start from there.

I made a major cock up, I worked from the opening towards the stern, then started from the opening to the bow, thus meaning the length of the opening did not suit the lenghts of the planks I had cut. I have had to strip out the planks at the front, and will now carry the planks up the sides to the front, and the lengths of the boards at the opening will be dictated to me.

I'm sure you will get it looking spot-on, I only infrequently look in on the surprise builds as a lot of them seem to fade, and not get finished?
I hope you are in for the long haul as you seem to to be taking a lot of care to get things right.
I look forward to how this deck turns out, keep the updates coming.
Thanks for sharing, Steve..
