Anchor Rings
Total Build time 25 hours

As everybody is aware the kit omits the anchor rings for the bow. As I have not seen any aftermarket offerings as yet I have had a bash at fabricating my own Blink I have simply used some scrap sprue from the kit. starting by filing a half circle with a round needle file and then filing the shape of the outer surface to make the hoop.

They look good Jase. I think the MK1 set has PE rectangles but they wouldn't look
any where near as good.

getting somewhat frustrated with the wat for my upgrade set Angry...

I orderd the upgrade set in January from a site that dident say it was out of stock. they took my money upfrontGlare then posted on their site that the set would be available for shipping on 27th Feb. Then apparently the supplier sent the wrong kits and delivery slipped again to 7th march. They didn't actually ship until the 13the March - then they didn't check my address and only had my name and post code so guess what now lost in the post Cursing Cursing Cursing i am now being told i have to wait 15 days before they can claim before anything will be done about it - NOT VERY HAPPYMad Angry Mad

Not good and a lot of money Crying

I was going to say, when you guy's have completed your Bis builds, maybe we would put up a forum vote for a winner, and maybe I could source a small prize for the winner, for all round innovation and the end result?
Have a chat amongst yourselves and let me know..

That sounds a nice idea Tom, sort of payback and reward for those who put the effort into posting their work on the forum?? Maybe that could be done for the McLaren builds as well as others like the Victory, etc? Give a date, say the end of the year then close the book and ask members to cast their votes?

It's too Big for the Fish Tank, so I'm thinking the Hull will make a good feed trough for the Sheep and I'm going to motorize all the Turrets to move in Rhythm with a hidden MP3 Player blasting out 'Die Fahne hoch', along with flashing multicoloured Disco Searchlights.Flapper Flapper LOL LOL LOL

Hull Modification.
Total build time 28 hours

Working on putting the stripes onto the starboard side today. I have also done a couple of small hull modifications. The stern should have a small lip (see link below) I have added this using green stuff. I used kit part D2 to get the length correct, once this has hardened overnight i will sand into final shape ready for priming, which is why it looks a little oversize at the moment.

http://www.bismarck-clas...or/smoke_generator.html

I have also made a correction at that bow. The protrusion of the anchor slip ways is to shallow on the kit so again using green stuff i have reshaped and 'beefed up' this feature. As with the stern once the green stuff has hardened over night i will give a final sanding. See links for my references.

http://www.bismarck-clas...ismportforesection.html

I have also made two small changes to the anchor holes on the deck. on the kit they are slots but they need a slip putting in a simple and quick job with a round needle file. see links for reference.

As always any comments most welcome.

Deck Preparation.
Total build time 31 hours.

Whilst my hull stripes where drying and my green stuff hardening i decided to start painting the deck ready for receiving the wood overlay. The majority of Bismarck builds i have seen have not got this correct, many have painted all the steel work on the deck the same colour as the superstructure. Quite a few also have the hull and superstructure the sam grey, this is also incorrect. The superstructure should be Hellgrau 50 the hull grey is Dunkelgrau 51. Unfortunately WEM have been out of stock of the correct superstructure paint for some time so I am using Revell SM 374 which is identical in shade just not quite the same quality of paint. Some parts of the deck work are in the superstructure grey but others are in Schiffsbodenfarbe Grau 1 which is a very dark grey that looks black on the photos this is the same colour as the steel decks and the dark strip that runs along the bottom of the superstructure. I have spent a lot of time researching the deck to get this correct and fairly shaw i have, but if you spot an error please let me know BigGrin The stairways should be in the internal colour which although referred to by the Germans as white was actually a very pale grey with the first meter from the floor dark grey.

So I have painted the stairways first in 3 parts Revell SM 374 1 part white. the rims and the step out are all in the dark grey. See a combination of the following links and my pics as to what went light grey and what went dark grey. I have painted all the gun footings dark grey so I can mask off and leave the dark stripe, which i have guestimated from the research as 1.5mm at this scale.
