Thanks guys. More mock ups.I placed the boxcar behind the train and put the caboose behind that.It measure about 40 inches total length.I have to resize the caboose from 1/24 to 1/32 as it is obviously too big. I think the boxcar looks OK .I decided on a green color to tone down the diorama a bit. I had a disaster with the decals for the tender.One of the ones on the front disintegrated when I applied it to the model. A phone call to the store I bought the kit from resulted in the delightful news that OCCRE wont respond to purchasers requests for replacement parts and the store only orders every 3 months so it looks like I am waiting 3 months for the replacement decals.Great. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

Carl I have been in touch with OcCre twice and on both occasions they have sent me, at no cost replacement parts and they did reply to the issue I had with the Bell parts. They can take a while to reply and their English is "Interesting" OcCre sent me a complete set of replacement Decals.I only need the dial faces so if you want the rest PM your address and I will send them on to you You can Email OcCre direct at technic@occre.com but as I have already said they can take a while to respond I see from your picture you still have to attach the copper bands to the tank. I did think of gluing them on but was concerned about surplus glue spoiling my paint job so in the end I cut to length, bent to shape ( making them a little tight) then drilled the ends and pinned in place. The pins will not be seen once the tank is attached to the chassis.The two short lengths at the cab end I glued in place Have a nice day Gil Current Build:-

I tried the email address, but their mail server blocked my email every time I tried. Maybe in USA it is different than UK, but the stor I bought the train from said they wouldn't respond if I emailed them directly.I will PM you about the decals.All I need is the 2 decals for the front of the tender that go on the curved front of the tender.Mine had a stain on them and when I tried applying them they both ripped and then curled up into a blob.
Thanks for the tip about the bands.I think that is what I will do too.

More details on the boxcar as I wait for my spraybooth to become accessible again.The boxcar has bars across the windows so I tried to mimic those with 1/32 brass rod.I also made some grills using the netting for the chimney. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

Still waiting on the spraybooth so I started wok on the caboose.This is a cheap Bachmann caboose that is 1/24 scale.It has 45mm wheel spacing so I decided to use the base of the caboose and scratchbuild the body.I need to shorten the wheel base so I cut the base and took 3cm off the length and reattached the 2 ends.I also made the caboose narrower so it matches the width of the boxcar and tender.Once the base has dried I will start construction of the body of the caboose based on the Bachmann caboose and some photos of a caboose found on the internet. Despite hours of scouring the internet, talking to a few train stores it seems like no-one makes a 1/32 caboose so the only option was to build my own. Cabooses were just starting to be used in the 1860s.They were generally quite small with a 4 wheel configuration.I couldn't find a specific Central pacific car, but there is no reason to think they would be Different from the Sante Fe caboose that Bachmann made. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

Thanks everyone for the kind words More progress on the caboose.The asbestos removal is taking forever so I still cant get to my spraybooth. I used basswood sheets to build the body of the caboose.I will cover these with the siding to simulate planking.I am not sure if I will leave the roof with planks or fill it and make it smooth. darbyvet attached the following image(s):

Hi Carl looking GOOD their Like you I have spent many hours trawling through the internet looking at pictures of the caboose Most seem to show a smooth roof with a planked walkway on top. Not had any success in tracking down a model of the same scale 1:32 as the Jupiter so I may just go for the freight wagon from OcCre. Not quite the same time zone as the Jupiter but will fit onto my trestle bridge Gil Current Build:-

I do plan to add the cupola and the planks on the roof too.I haven't decided if I am going to leave the roof with the wide planks or smooth it off like the boxcar roof.
I have seen pictures of the Jupiter with just boxcars and/or passenger wagons and no caboose.In the 1860s cabooses were not yet standard on th CPRR. With the boxcar and caboose I figure my train is going to be 38 inches long so it will need a sizeable trestle bridge.

I will post some more pics shortly as I am continuing to build the caboose. I have a bit of modelers block at the moment. Since I am scratchbuilding the caboose I dont have instructions to follow so I find myself sitting looking at the caboose and trying to figure out what to do next.

SO I got my modeling mojo back after building the LEGO slave 1.Really nice kit BTW. More detail work on the caboose.I put the thin planking siding on the sides and framed the windows and doors. Almost ready to start painting it.I just need to do some filling and sanding.I am going to use filler on the roof to make it smooth and then attach the cupola. The basement asbestos removal is done , but now I have mold down there so I have to treat that before I can use the spraybooth. darbyvet attached the following image(s):
