Hi Ant62,she is looking good and now you are coming to plank the lower part of the ship and i was wondering if you are going to use filler blocks for the stern and bow as this will help keep the shape of the hull with out the use of additional clamps and will be better formed. just a thought Trev. Trev. Hi i have not given any thought to planking the hull after i got to the stage where it is now.... But now you have mentioned i will look into it... Would i be correct in looking at balsa blocks!!!!! Building.

Hi Ant62 you may find it better to fill the blocks as a loaf of bread standing up type construction,don't pay to much attention to getting the exact shape of the area at this point it is better to have to much material rather than too little as low spots take more time to fix with the use of wood fillers. By the Loaf of bread terminology you mean a piece on top of a piece and glue together and then sand to shape.... Building.

With my Victory build I used expanding foam, the one you get in a tube and chopped it off with a bread knife,best bet would be Balsa and slot it in and sand it down. You will see that the shape will come to life and that will stop any twisted planks.This will be a matter of choice for you to think on. Expanding foam! That different and something totally unexpected.. What was it like to work with! My only issue i have with using blocks is that i dont have any sanding equipment its all by hand.. I do have the dremel kit given out by Deagostini but even that im unsure with.. Last time i sanded balsa wood where in school many years ago so havent a clue what its like to work with... Building.

looking good. i had mine with the fairing all done and ready to plank then decided to infill with balsa at the bow and the first couple of side frames bow and stern. balsa is easy to sand by hand and doesnt take long at all. Current builds

I did intend to add balsa to the bow and a couple of side frames but who i buy my limewood strips from had sold out and i where not paying for two lots of delivery.. So when i found out they had some limewood instock and by the time i got online to place my order it had all gone... Just my luck.. Anyway the planks are only pinned i can still add balsa before i glue any of the planks and make adjustments.. Building.

It is a nice to do and I will definitely do it on my next build (?) but it is not a necessity. The key here is to have faired the keel properly i.e. if you have any doubt then continue rubbing down or building up until you are fully satisfied that the your test planks look good and run smoothly around the bows.

Its all trial an error for me.... Im learning as im going along but i can only do bits here n there due to a new addition the family..... Building.

lol yeah im struggling to find time to do mine as well. and im in the throws of organising my house getting relocated so will be out of it for 3 weeks as of week after next. i will probably get more time while out of the house as we are staying at my wifes sisters place and i will be hiding in the bedroom as i dont get on with them that well.  gonna be the worst 3 weeks ive had in many many years  Current builds

Hi Ant62 Looking at your build it looks like what is called crowding thats when the planks are to thin at the end resulting in splinter like plank, you may well have to put a few drop planks to reduce the number of planks running forward. Hi all... Back on the Victory build today... I had to suspend the subscription due to a temp move while the repairs where carried out on our property and various other issues and hopefully back home by christmas so i can get the boxes back to being delivered but i wont hold my breath... Anyway im back onto the the planking of the bow with a clear head and boy it does you good to leave the build alone and have clearer thoughts. So ive managed to bend two bow planks and also do the drop planks etc.... Pics soon.. Building.
