More excellent work Alan. Question: In post #116 you have the part held in what looks like a vice. a) is that correct? b) does it vacuum clamp to the cutting mat its on? Doh, that`s two questions. I have an edge of table vice, but if I drop anything I have to beat the carpet monsters to it. If this adheres to a cutting mat I can put it further back on the table to confound the little demons. I ask because my left thumb is getting worse for grip and it may be a solution to my problems. Can`t get to see a specialist with the way things are at present, proven by the fact that my wife is still awaiting cataract ops on both eyes that were cancelled three days before the first lockdown early this year. Thanks again for all the supportive comments guys, appreciated.... Have now decided to jump in at the deep end and start working on the hull of this beast... will post up once I've had a good look and see what needs to be done.... @Derek, I use a multitude of different thing to hold pieces in place but the two vices below are probably the ones I use the most. The first is quite weighty so don't really use the suction pad, I find for most uses the weight of the vice means little movement on the bench. Very versatile, can hold items at various angles which I find very useful... If I do need to clamp it down then I tend to place the vice onto a sheet of toughened glass. The second vice I find works very well for holding some of the smaller parts. Can be clamped to the edge of the desk but I prefer to have it on the centre of my work area... Works for me.... Hope this helps... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

More outstanding PE work on that aft superstructure Alan. I am thoroughly enjoying watching your first forays into using this media and you never cease to amaze me with how skilled you seem to be with it already!
Very well done yet again Alan, keep it coming.

Happy New Year to everyone, hope you all had a wonderful festive period. For me, I decided to take a complete break from modelling for a couple of weeks. Felt like I needed to chill out, enjoy the festivities and recharge. Now we’re into a new year its now time to get back to doing the serious stuff. My thanks to all who have looked in a commented, as always it is very much appreciated. Have started work on the hull and here I got a big surprise, on just how much work is needed to be done to the hull section prior to attaching etch, prop shaft housings, rudders etc. Close inspection of the hull revealed many (long) seam lines that needed to be dealt with plus some pretty deep depressions that needed filling and sanding. Before I got down to the business of filling and sanding I glued the hull cross members in place and the two sections of the bow, then let it all dry. Removed all the seam lines before doing some putty work to sort out the depressions, then removed all the moulded detailing that will be replaced with etch. Also noticed the hole at the front of the bow was situated too low so filled this and sanded ready for re-drilling. Now ready to start adding the detail so until then, happy modelling. Great work Alan. The hull is quite flimsy without them stays an deck in place isn't it. Looking well after the filling and sanding. What jig is it you are using to hold the hull. Would come in handy on some of my big kits. Chris On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

Nice work Alan. I guess some of these kits do need the “old days” attention in sanding and filing but i always think that goves you a sense of achievement when its finished and you look at it snd say to yourself “i had to fix that, i had to fix that” and you can feel satisfaction on a job well done. Thanks again guys for looking in and all the supportive comments, appreciated..... Got some more work on the hull done, doesn't look much but took a bit of time. Fitted the bilge keels, prop shaft housings and prop supports. More putty work then onto drilling all of the portholes out using a 1.6mm drill. Noticed here a couple of ports are missing but can't drill them yet. Need to get the ladder positions drilled first to make sure I drill the portholes in the correct position. Finally, went over the whole of the hull with 1200 grit sandpaper to get it all perfectly smooth. Now ready to start fitting some of the etch so until next time.... happy modelling..... Its another step closer to getting it completed Alan. That is a lot of work having to sand something so large but its all the important steps to make sure you get a nice finish. Hope it continues well. Tony Happy Modelling
