BigGrin Hi Jase
Its interesting you mention the USS Maine , as its sinking blamed on sabotage at the time caused a war between the USA and Spain, the american's were spoiling for a fight here. There is a new theory though that the explosion was caused by a fire in a coal bunker that was adjacent to a magazine

1940 The evacuation of Allied forces from Dunkirk begins. The evacuation is run by the Royal Navy to lift fleeing British French and Belgian troops of the beaches. The evacuation symbolised the utter defeat of the British expeditionary forces ( the most advanced army in the world at that point) and the all but collapse of the French army (the largest ground force in the world) Following the evacuation resistance to german advance collapsed. British Propaganda focused on the heroism of the ordinary man in the 'little ships' helping rescue the troops which helped take the focus of the fact that Britain had just had one of its most humiliating defeats of all time.
