Hi Alan, Things are looking real good. I`ve not had a lot of time to keep up recently due to work and the second planking, which I thought was going to be a little troublesome but (thanks to some of your excellent close up pics)has not been half as bad as I thought. Keep up the good work and don`t forget the close ups . Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

If my diary and any of the close up pics help you in any way to achieve the build you desire then I am more than happy m8.... it is one of the reasons I decided to do a diary, to help others and for others to advise me when I am going wrong.... ..Looking forward to seeing your progress... Well tonight I finally managed to finish cladding the prow and ribs with walnut sheet... . Ribs were glued in place and when dry I finally attached the whole section to the hull.... .. I really am happy with the way it has turned out and to be honest I don't think the pics do it justice, looks a lot better in the flesh... .. well worth the effort I put in... Tomorrow hopefully will be able to clad the remaining 3 pieces of the keel and get them fitted.... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

Truely great work Alan I think you may find that because of the large sides of the beak in the kit design that they are enough black when painted and the walnut on your prow will help balance it out. Kind Regards Nigel

Kind Regards Nigel Thanks very much for the encouraging comments Nigel... .. Toying with actually just adding a dark stain to the top of the prow and beak heads rather than paint them black... To be honest, I would really like to continue with this build using a minimal amount of paint and try to achieve a natural wood finish with the use of some stains.... .. Just thinking ahead for now.... Regards Alan

Have thought about the use of inks but I have some walnut stain so am going to try a few experiments on scrap walnut to see what the effect will be... if that doesn't work out then I'll have a look to see what can be done with inks... .. Thanks again for the tip, appreciated... Regards Alan

Hi Alan It looks fantastic! You got me thinking on the prow! As I said earlier that mine is already glued, but I'm considering to steam it loose and cut the prow from solid wallnut! I recently bought some 1/8" wallnut. I know it is a fraction thinner than the 4 mm plywood, but don't think it will make suche a difference! Thanks for a great idea! Keep up the good work! Regards Kobus

Regards Hi Kobus, thanks for the encouraging comments... .. Don't see any real reason why you can't use slightly thinner walnut, only thing is you would have to add strips of packing into the rib slots in order to ensure a snug fit or, you can also make new ribs out of the same walnut sheet.... just a thought.... .. I have ended up going the other way where I have increased the overall thickness of the prow and ribs from 4mm to 6mm.... ..Thanks again... Regards Alan
