Hi Alan,BigGrin

Things are looking real good. I`ve not had a lot of time to keep up recently due to work and the second planking, which I thought was going to be a little troublesome but (thanks to some of your excellent close up pics)has not been half as bad as I thought.
Keep up the good work and don`t forget the close ups Cool Cool .

Well tonight I finally managed to finish cladding the prow and ribs with walnut sheet...Cool Cool . Ribs were glued in place and when dry I finally attached the whole section to the hull....BigGrin BigGrin .. I really am happy with the way it has turned out and to be honest I don't think the pics do it justice, looks a lot better in the flesh... Cool Cool .. well worth the effort I put in... Tomorrow hopefully will be able to clad the remaining 3 pieces of the keel and get them fitted....BigGrin BigGrin

Regards

Alan

Truely great work AlanCool Cool
I think you may find that because of the large sides of the beak in the kit design that they are enough black when painted and the walnut on your prow will help balance it out.

Thanks very much for the encouraging comments Nigel...Cool Cool .. Toying with actually just adding a dark stain to the top of the prow and beak heads rather than paint them black... To be honest, I would really like to continue with this build using a minimal amount of paint and try to achieve a natural wood finish with the use of some stains.... Cool Cool .. Just thinking ahead for now.... BigGrin BigGrin

Hi Andy, thanks for looking in...Cool Cool .. Have thought about the use of inks but I have some walnut stain so am going to try a few experiments on scrap walnut to see what the effect will be... if that doesn't work out then I'll have a look to see what can be done with inks... Cool Cool .. Thanks again for the tip, appreciated...BigGrin

Hi Alan

It looks fantastic! BigGrin You got me thinking on the prow! As I said earlier that mine is already glued, but I'm considering to steam it loose and cut the prow from solid wallnut! I recently bought some 1/8" wallnut. I know it is a fraction thinner than the 4 mm plywood, but don't think it will make suche a difference!

Thanks for a great idea! Keep up the good work!BigGrin

Kobus

Hi Kobus, thanks for the encouraging comments... Cool Cool .. Don't see any real reason why you can't use slightly thinner walnut, only thing is you would have to add strips of packing into the rib slots in order to ensure a snug fit or, you can also make new ribs out of the same walnut sheet.... just a thought....BigGrin BigGrin .. I have ended up going the other way where I have increased the overall thickness of the prow and ribs from 4mm to 6mm.... BigGrin BigGrin ..Thanks again...

Alan
