Good morning from 'The Dockyard'. Well I've been busy working, interspersed with sporadic model making sessions. Progress has been slow but steady as I concentrate on the repairs. See the attached photo showing the replacement part that I will have to fit. The next step was to tentatively remove the melted parts without causing further damage. So I proceeded to remove small sections at a time causing a great deal of mess! Replacement part now sitting in it's correct location. Not fixed or glued at this stage. A lot more work involved such as filling, pinning, fettling and filing. That concludes this update. By the time I post my next update I hope to have it glued and pinned in place and all filler work completed. Depending on progress, my update will either be next week or the week after. Thanks for looking in and stay safe people! Regards, Phil W. Hi Phil, WTG with the start of the repair. I`m sure I would not have been brave enough to wade in with a dremel saw, more likely a sharp blade and then taken three months. Wishing you well with the rest of the repair job that`s looking spot on. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Good morning from 'The Dockyard' and i hope you're all well? More progress has been made on the hull repairs. I spent a bit more time ensuring that the replacement part would fit correctly. Far easier to write these words than accomplish! The idea being that it fits with all edges aligned and no force required to achieve that. The next step after this was to drill out all of the free flood holes with a 0.8mm drill bit and dress them with a needle file. This took about 6 hours in total. See attached photo. Sticky Wickett attached the following image(s): Completed projects: 1/43 scale Bedford HA van / 1/43 scale MG TD sports car Current projects: 1/48 scale U-boat [U230] Future projects: 1/148 scale railway diorama / 1/50 scale R/C Volvo F89 logging truck / 1/148 scale Thunderbirds Fireflash

The next step was to fit packing pieces, which I will use to fix the part too. There are several of these packing pieces and I would fit one, then file it to size by constantly checking that the replacement part aligned as it did before. If it sat too high, I would know that packing piece was sitting too proud. It was far easier to fit one at a time, which narrowed down which packing piece to work on. See attached photo showing three packing pieces fitted, indicated by arrows. They were all made from MDF cut offs, fixed with PVA glue and left to dry overnight before filing them. By fitting one at time, it took several evenings to complete this stage.
