Thanks Trev, I always appreciate your kind comments! As you rightly say, I am quite often busier than I would wish and I know that I do regularly have periods where I don't post much on the forum, but that's just life getting in the way. I will be posting another update on this build this afternoon and then hopefully more regularly?!

Hello all,
Time for the next update.
I have finally reached the point where I can permanently glue the chassis and engine/ gearbox assemblies together:
I have also painted the small strip at the front of the chassis which will be visible when the nosecone is removed and which should be blue as it will be a part of the recessed bodywork when the body panels are all fitted. I haven't clear coated this strip yet so it looks a little dull in the photo, but I also need to add a small white strip in the centre of this which can only be done when the upper panel is fitted in order to get it to line up perfectly. Clear coat on this area will be done when all is in place and the white decal has been fitted:
I've also added some small metal retaining straps front and back of the electrical boxes beneath the rollover bar, something which I forgot to do in my last update:
At this point I should be permanently gluing the side and top body panels in place but I have some adjustments to make to them, so they'll be fitted in the next update. After that it'll be moving on the the front and rear suspension and brakes and uprights.
I decided to get the brakes/upright assemblies completed, ready for that next stage. The photo below shows all of the kit components for that stage:
Strangely, for such an expensive kit, the brake calipers don't include any kind of suggestion of brake pads within the calipers!? I fixed that by cutting eight pieces of plastic sheet into a believable shape and then glued them into the calipers so that they would sit either side of the brake discs. The pictures below show the process through to painting of the pads and also the fitting of brake pipes to the calipers and also I scratchbuilt some missing bolt heads and brake bleed nipples. I think the completed brake calipers look very much like the 'Cybermen' on 'Doctor Who'!!:
The front and rear uprights were airbrushed and a small ring of chrome paint added to the inside of the front hubs. The brake discs were also airbrushed and I made an attempt to make them look as though they had gotten quite hot as per reference photos? If you look carefully you can see a slight blue tinge around the centre most part of the discs where they meet the bearing housings and a slightly burnt metal look to the rest of it? The brake calipers, brake discs and upright assemblies have yet to receive their subtle washes to bring out the details, that will be done when I come to fully assemble them into the suspension systems so that I can do those as well at the same time:

I have also now received my 1:12 'standing' figure of Dan Gurney all the way from Model Factory Hiro' in Japan! It's a nice casting and the head looks very much like Dan Gurney himself. Not sure about the pose of the arms though and I may interchange one or both of those with the ones that came with the car kit (which was sitting) to see if I can create a better pose? We'll see when I come to it.

Hello all,
Many thanks for your kind words Mark, Roy and Malc, greatly appreciated as always!
Finally I have fitted the body panels to the chassis! Hooray!
I will admit that I had a little bit of trepidation towards getting them permanently glued in place, not least because I would have just one chance to get it right and also I would need to clamp them in place whilst the glue dried. Given that the panels had already been painted and decaled I was fearing that I might have some horrendous marks in the finish when I removed the clamps but with a bit of care and only fitting one panel per day, I managed to get away with it! Phew! Very difficult to get a neat fit between the panels, but with some judicious fettling and constant trial fitting I've managed a fairly good result though there are still one or two areas where they could have been a bit closer but I can live with it, as the fit of the body panels on a lot of MFH kits are notoriously difficult to get right!!
After I had fitted the two side panels and before I could fit the top coaming I had to fit the clear tubing which runs along the top edge of the cockpit and connects to the breather pipes just forward of the cockpit. Seemed a simple enough task but was actually very fiddly and quite tricky to get a neat appearance.
Photos below show where I am up to now?
That's it for now, front hubs and brakes are ready to be fitted, which will be seen in the next update as will the rear brakes and suspension/driveshaft assemblies.

Hey Kev,
This is looking amazing! I really like the thin, satin appearance of the paint job. The super gloss builds of this kit are beautiful. But, they aren’t truly scale. This is.

Hello all,
Many thanks for looking in and leaving such great comments Phil and Malc, greatly appreciated as always and yes Malc, these MFH kits are certainly tricky!
So, as promised in my last update, this one will concentrate on fitting the front and rear brakes and hubs, along with the complete rear suspension system and driveshafts. The first two photos below show all of the components for the rear suspension and driveshaft assemblies after they have been prepped and painted where necessary, including the shock absorbers/springs fully assembled in the second photo. The rest of the photos don't warrant any narrative to be honest as they are all just photos of the fully fitted parts for this update, so I'll let the photos do the talking. As I've said before, the paintwork in these photos looks quite coarse and grainy with the metallic flakes in the paint being quite prominent, but in reality it is actually darker and smoother, as you will see when I take the photos of the finished model at the end of the build.
Finally, my favourite photo so far, this shot really says everything about the old 'cigar shaped' Grand Prix cars with their open engines and gearboxes. To my mind they looked far more interesting in the old days than they do now with their fully enclosing bodywork! Imagine following this view at close quarters around Monaco!! :
The next update will focus on the water/cooling system with the prominent chromed pipes that run along the lower chassis on each side and the main coolant tank and radiator that is fitted at the front. I am going to try something a bit different with the radiator that will give it a more realistic appearance if it works out ok!

Some more fantastic work each time Kev! I love the metallic finishes on all the struts and 'um, other bits! What's becoming more interesting all the time is looking at your builds and realizing 'Oh!
