Thanks for the encouragement, I am now attacking the border to the bow, making a paper template of the curve then going to cut the border timber out of plywood. I will keep you posted.

After the disaster of trying to form a margin plank to the deck at the bow,( in plywood ). See my post on Surprise - General - Advice sought. I have now got timber 20mm wide and I am going to do the margin plank in 3 stages, The timber is less likely to split.

Firstly I cut a bit of the 20mm plank and fitted it to the frames.I did this to both port and starboard sides.

I them fitted one of the pre bent bulwark planks and pinned in place.

I then used a piece of deck planking and marked a parrell line round the bulwark plank. This then gives me the finished line i need to achieve.

Again the margin plank now marked ready for cutting.

Now all cut and sanded to shape.

I then glued and fitted the pieces in place.

then it's just a case of cutting and filling in the decking.

and after the two side margin planks I did the one to the bow.

Over and out for now.

I have now finished the margin plank to the bow and filled in all the planking.

I have also transfered the mast holes from the lower deck to the top deck.I have also checked the hatch opening is straight and square, and I have done all the treenailing.

And again I have treated the deck to a coat of oak stain.

Quite happy that all that work in now complete.

Looking stunning now mo, the oak staining really brings out the detailing in the deck, all that hard work has really paid off.

Thanks lads for all your posts, Its nice to know people are reading your posts. I am finding it quite difficult ( For a newbie ) knowing exactly what to do, The instructions are very vague, I see the Victory and Soverign builds have a official diary to follow, wish there was one for the Surprise, As and when I get to the masts and rigging I will just have to refer to these builds,I have looked at the rigging drawings, oh boy what a challange.

I am doing things a bit out of sequence, but its the way I feel sometimes, looking for a easier task to do, I have now decieded to make the furniture for the top deck, The first thing I am going to do is make the ( dont even know what you call it )see pictures.

I glued the two ends to the two sides, with super glue, The roof panels with the windows in it, I gave two of the long edges a back bevel, So as when they are glued in place, there will be no gap at the ridge, I also super glued the blue plastic window material to the roof panels.

I then glued them all together, once dry I sanded all the faces to get a good finish, I will give all the walnut a coat of clear varnish at a later date, before fixing to the deck.

It was then on to the ships wheels.

I did not follow the instructions here, I just did my own thing. I re bored the holes in the wheels out to 3mm, I then used a 3 mm walnut dowel and glued the dowel and one of the end in place.

I then glued the other end in place along with the wheel, trying to keep the handles of the two wheels in line. I also made a piece of timber for the base plate, which I bored 2 holes in to take the rope for the rudder.

Again well chuffed how it is all turning out.

Looking very good there Mo, the only thing I could advise is be carefull how much of the deck furniture you fit as it will impact when fitting the deck guns give yourself plenty of working room as this is where I am on my build, but it really is coming on now, hope we get to the rigging at the same time need all the help i can get lol.
Great work so far.

Peter, I am only making the bits for the top deck, I am not fitting them in place, I still have a lot to do on the lower deck, the top deck isn't fixed yet.
