Thanks for that i will ordering my parts now but was thinking of using cherry instead, do you think this would be ok its just how it bends that worries me, any advice would be welcome.

Hi Petpole,

Cherry would be nice, its quite nice wood. I would imagine it to be as brittle as mahogany, sapele and walnut. Soak the end in Hot water for 10 minutes, the you should be able to bend it, If you have an elecy plank bender then that would make it easier too.

The only thing you have to look out for is the keel and stem are in sapele. Unless you make your own but thats wouldn't be cost effective...

Chris.

Yes i know it would brittle but i thought that would be a challenge LOL,
also if the wood is of a different colour from the redness of the cherry it might frame it off after it is varnished and differnt woods would have been used on the original so this would my interpretation.
Your ideas would be welcome as i am also going to have a go at a scratch built HMS Albion so i'm a sucker for hard work LOL LOL .
Keep up the good work.

Here are a couple of shots of my half rigged Cannon onboard now. Just need to make some more blocks up for the rear and the other side then onto making some spirals of rope to sit over the cut of end.

Hi All

I have done a little kit bashing today and installed a Stair well in the correct position, A/L have a solid hatch in a slight different position. The pain in the rear end bit was the fact that the frame and bulkheads are in the way under the deck so had to do some cutting at them, I didn't really think I was going to bash the kit up so much when I started otherwise I would have fitted a false deck.

Hi Chris

Excellent workmanship there. I wonder how many looking at those pictures will realise just how much skill goes into a piece of detail like that. I know from when I did similar work on my Bounty, how difficult it is to get the steps looking regular and squared up.

BTW, I was watching T.V. yesterday evening and the Endeavour Advert was on, it's a good job i had already decided not to take it on because SWMBO looked at it and said "Well I know somebody who isn't getting one of them!!!" Not quite sure who she meant, but I have my suspicions!!

But once again well done and keep the pictures comming.Drool Drool Drool

What do you use for the thick white gun rope? I've looked at various srings, even white wool, but nothing I've found so far seems to meet the look you have got.

Hi All.

Here goes with a few more pictures.
I have made the Main Chain Pumps to go on the lower Deck. The kit doesn't for some reason have them fitted!! But me following the prototype had to fit them.

I have studied pics from various places and have measured the pumps on the FLY then converted to 1/48 and got the sizes I have made them. Some models show the pumps fit just under the roof beams but according to "The construction and fitting of the English man of war 1650-1850.Peter Goodwin" they are half height between deck and roof. Which make mine spot on..I Hope..

I also made and fitted my first grating.. problem was I tried using A/L's parts but the fell apart so ordered Amati gratings from Online-Hobbies.

Hi All, Just thought I'd post a couple of pics of my update.

I have but the ribs off the inside of the bulwarks and made my own deck from 3mm Ply. Which is so much easier than the way A/L tell you to do the deck. Why they don't use ply is beyond me.

I haven't finished the cutouts on it yet though.
