Looking great Carl.

Have you had a chance to try those b******* transfers on the Loco yet????!!! Cursing Cursing Cursing

I have decide to build the OcCre Wagon (1:32 scale) to complete my Jupiter display. That will fill my trestle nicely behind the Jupiter. Not too sure about the brakemans cabin at the rear of the Boxcar so I may modify this.

Look forward to seeing your Jupiter with the rolling stock attached

Gil

Thanks everyone

Gil I haven't plucked up the courage to finish the tender with the decals you sent me.I figured I will finish the boxcar and the caboose and then go back to the train and tender. The longer before I have to deal with those $%*## decals the better.I sprayed the caboose with Tamiya paint, but it doesn't look right so I am going to respray it a toned down color.

The boxcar is an easy build.I agree about the brakemans hut on the back.Definitely doesn't look period. There is a hole in the roof piece where the hut goes, but I just used some thin strips to fill that in and then I put a sheet of scribed planking over the top.

I also left off the metal pieces that reinforce the frame because they are not period.

I am also going to scratchbuild a link and pin coupler because the one OCCRE gave for the tender is not right and the coupler for the boxcar is a later design.

The caboose is now painted and it is time for the final details. The next step is the access ladders that are at the front and rear of the train.I made these with brass rods and superglue.I tried soldering but the rungs of the ladder kept melting.

Nice one Carl

I have started on my box car and am thinking about the colour scheme. Do not like the colours indicated with the build so I was thinking of matching the colour scheme of the Jupiter.

Inside the box car to be green
The roof Red
Varnish the sides to leave the original colour of the wood showing
The metal fitting on the boxcar to be the same blue as the sides of the tender and the Cab
The underside to be black with the wheels left red with the spokes of the wheel showing to match the Engine.

I have not added the guards cab to the build and will do something similar to yours with a slatted walkway along the top of the roof with an access ladder at each end

Look forward to seeing your engine and tender in due course. I must be honest and admit I was very happy once I had finally finished mine

Thanks guys.

Dave I stopped working on the tender because I needed some decals replaced.Fortunately Gil Shapley very kindly sent me some since the store I bought the train from said it would be 3 months to get mine replaced.Once I have done the link and pin couplers I will get back to the tender and then finish up the engine

Gil-that sound like a good plan.I look forward to seeing your boxcar finished. The biggest disappointment with the box car is that it only has 4 wheels. It should have 8 wheels on two trucks based on all the photos I have seen.I was going to scratchbuild 2 trucks and get some 1/32 wheels, but it would have been a ton of work so I didn't bother.

The final part of the boxcar and caboose-------the couplers!!!!

I previously linked a youtube video showing the link and pin couplers that were used in the early days of the CPRR.These were extremely hazardous to work for the engineers and were soon replaced by the automatic couplers that activated once the 2 ends were shunted together.

The couplers that came with the boxcar were not right.THe coupler that were on the Bachmann caboose that I kitbashed to make my caboose were also the later automatic type.

So I ended up using the coupler that came with the Jupiter kit. This was a bit like the link and pin type.I needed 5 of these to attach the boxcar to the tender and the boxcar to the caboose and I only had 1 so I decided to modify the Jupiter part to make it more accurate and then make a rubber mold and cast the 5 couplers I needed in resin.

Once the parts were molded I used a dremel with a bur to hollow out the inside of the coupler.I made pins with pieces of steel cut from paper clips and I made the 3 links needed to join the couplers.I use brass tubing to make the heads of the pins.

The final pics show the link and pin couplers installed between the boxcar and caboose. These are fully functional-You can remove the pins to separate the rolling stock.THey now just need to be painted and then the next step is to finish the tender (now I have the decals I need-Thanks again to Gil Shapley who generously sent me the extras he had).
