Hello Shipmates,

Thank you for the positive comments.

Little work done today by completing Issue 69:
Fore topmast, hand mast and mast cap assembled and glued onto the fore mast and mast top assembly.

Today I also posted a concern/question regarding the rigging of the blocks to the yards and topgallant masts.
Could you please have a look and give me your opinion/advise?
See link to my post:
http://forum.model-space.co.uk/default.aspx?g=posts&t=25286

Thanks

Today's work so far on Issue 70:

Fore topgallant mast tapered.
I upgraded the method what I used for tapering the studdingsail booms and showed in this post:
http://forum.model-space.co.uk/default.aspx?g=posts&m=263291#post263291

As the diameter of the topgallant mast is too big for the chunk in my Dremel I used my pillar drill with the same technique to wrapping sandpaper around the mast and moving it up and down to shape the perfect taper.
Basically it works like a vertical lathe.
The result is beautiful... I wish I was used this method for the main mast, would have been much quicker.
With this method I completed the tapering on the fore topgallant mast (incl. the step in it) within 15 minutes.

After tapering completed I made the octagonal hounds, also the octagonal carving at the bottom section.
Holes drilled, bead glued to top.
The mast and mast cap painted black.

Topmast cross trees glued in place and painted black.

Will carry on rigging and assembling the parts later on today, after the paint dried.

You make that mast tapering sound easy but it looks difficult to me. You know what your doing though and your results are very nice.

Hope it all continues well.

As promised, today I test fitted the fore mast to the hull together with the main mast.
Next to the ship is the main yard on the bench.

Isn't it looking great? Cool

Started to work on Issue 71:

With the same technique with my pillar drill I tapered the fore yard to the required diameter.
It was a bit more challenging as the yard is longer than the topgallant mast, hence I had to turn the upper part of the drill away from the base to provide a bit more space.
Also after one end is tapered it was a bit more tricky to hold the tapered end in the chuck vertical but I managed to do it, resulting nice and equal tapering on both ends.

Further work today in Issue 71:

- Octagonal section added to fore yard
- Slings and bands added
- Six footrope supports made, again I used my own invention from thread as they are made from ropes on the real ship, not brass as in this kit. See details on this on my earlier post if you're interested:
http://forum.model-space.co.uk/default.aspx?g=posts&m=263336#post263336

I had to stop for today as my fingertips are covered with superglue, as a result of making the footrope supports. Laugh LOL

Hi Shipmates,

First of all, I'd like to wish Merry Christmas to all of you, who are occasionally or regularly reading my build diary.

Some work still done today on Issue 71:
- Studdingsail boom irons fitted
- Footrope supports rigged to the yard
- Yard painted black.
I'm note sure why Blink but I left the irons unpainted, even if the magazine saying to be painted.
I also done it this way on the main yard, maybe I though it's better to show that they are made from metal.
