This is a superb model Mark!Love You have a great eye for detail and a subtle touch when it comes to weathering. Can't wait to see it placed within the diorama.

Thank you you for your king comments and looking in. Just got some MDF to start the base, it’s the electronics that will probably give the headache on this one.Crying

I have started painting the link cables. These were primed, then painted matt black, and a little dusting of grey spray for highlighting purposes. This gives me a good base to work with, to finish off when pieced together towards the end of the build.
I have also started on Anakin himself. This is the figure that came with the kit and a lot of work was needed to highlight some area. This is primed ready for detailed painting.

Now to the last picture, what the beep is that I hear you ask? I know it looks a bit Heath Robinson, for those of you who can remember him, but I have had a hard time drawing and sketching the diorama itself to see how it will look as well as working out what it will all be made of.
The first part will be to make a hollow base where the electronics, sound board and speaker will go. This will be made from MDF and painted black and holes on the front for the switches to play the different sounds and lighting effects.
The rock formation will be made of styrene, wood chips and bark. This will be painted to give a rock like formation.
The pod racer itself will be displayed at an angle to portray it swerving around the rocks with the supports for the pod embedded into the rocks, so they will be invisible giving the appearance of it being unsupported and flying in mid-air. This will also allow the cables to be threaded through the rocks and into the base.
So now onto the last picture. This is the template for where the supports will be placed, allowing me to hold the template at the angle I desire. This is where I will mark where the supports will go, before I drill the holes into the rock formation and base.
Well that’s the theory anyway. Crying
I have also decided to place a little Easter egg for people to find as well.

More soon

Now it is time to start to make the base. First, I attached the model to the jig so it would give me an idea of the overall size. I then drew this on a piece of paper and measured it all out. Once I had all the measurement, I then made a template base from carboard to give me an idea of how I wanted it to look. At the moment, it looks more like a DVD player.LOL
The buttons on the side will be to operate the lighting and sound effects, and there will be a name plate below.
I then started to cut some MDF and started to build the display base as shown in the last picture.

you could also slightly blur an image from the movie to make it look like the racer is moving.I have seen that done on aircraft and car dioramas.

I have continued with the case that will display the diorama. I have filled in areas using plastic putty and sanding down. I then primed the case, sanded down again and applied more filler where necessary. This was done several times to get a smooth finish. I still have some more to do, but the last picture shows where I will drill holes into the case where the switches will be to operate the lighting and sound effects. This part of the case will be brushed aluminium.

More soon.

The base is looking good Mark, it will be very impressive with the type of background you are thinking of.
