Hello All, Here we are with the next testing session, but firstly thanks to all those who looked in and those who took the time to leave a comment. As this build has developed I have made some build operational changes. I was going to have a pull out tray from the dio base for access to the smoke generators for re-filling, but decided in the end to have a lift-off top dio base to save having flexible cables to come out with the tray. This meant that I had to do more testing and measuring to get the set-up correct and all working together. So, here`s the next test bed: Getting the drive for the rear axle of the "Funny Car" through the dio base. I`ve attached some pics, but shown them as if I was stripping back from the finished item to the basics. Note: The rear axle is still a lot wider than required. So the pics: 1 - Funny car over the rear axle on a make shift dio base. 2 - Body removed, showing the chassis in place over/up to the rear axle. 3 - The rear axle mounted to the dio base. This had to be millimetre perfect so that the gear on the axle can be driven through a slot in the dio base. 4 - Underneath the dio base is the gear that will be driven by the electric motor. (Ragged slot but this is a test bed). The black line is where the axle will be cut and the red squares are where the axle bearers will be mounted. (Yet to be made and most probably hard wood). When the dio base is lowered into place the gear mounted underneath will engage with the motor drive gear. This will be on a sliding mount vertically/horizontally for fine adjustment to get the gears to mesh. This will give me the height from the electronics base to the dio base, where I can then set-up the electro magnet and magnetic reed switch for the Pro-Fueler. So until next time keep "COVID SAFE" Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Hi All, Thanks to all who have looked in and to Tony, Mark and Phil for your comments. Todays update started well and then hit a small buffer. It had to happen at some point. So today: Pic 1 shows the first stage of the power supply/switching panel, which will be finalised as soon as I have the dio base height calculated. Pic 2 shows the Pro Fuel Pre-stage lights on with a mock up of the starting lights. Pic 3 After the Funny Car has done its burnout, the Pro Fuel via magnets gets moved into Full Stage (lights on). Pic 4 Even with three coats of clear coloured paint, the three yellow and one green lights that come on next show as a blur of light. You can`t even see the green light is on. So I`ve now bitten the bullet and purchased some colour specific led`s that I can turn down from 12v to 6v to hopefully cure this issue. So till next time, take care and enjoy your hobby. Derek Interesting to hear on you got on trying the clear coats on the led,s sounded like a good plan but shame the paint was not up to the job. I am sure the new leds you have ordered will sort that issue out for you. Tony Happy Modelling

Tony Hi Tony, Its a bit of a pain that the clear colours didn`t work, but its the only thing so far that has been a financial cost/loss (Only a few quid though). The original smoke generator I purchased was proven to be a faulty item and I was fully reimbursed for that, so at this point its the only extra cost I`ve incurred. The clear paints, I already had some and the other one will come in useful sometime. They are good for tinting navigation lights on ships and planes, just don`t put a bright light behind them. New led`s should be here in a couple of days, but I`ve plenty to be getting on with for now. Next update soon. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Well at least it was worth a try and you did get them all set up, so it should just be a straight swap over. Mark

Mark Hi Mark, Have received an email that the new led`s have been dispatched today. Still have a few options if these are too bright. 1: Run the yellows off 6v to tone it down and the greens on 12v to bring them up. 2: Still have the option to use the clear paints to enhance the colour and reduce the brightness. As you say they are an easy swap over, so should end up with the required result in the end. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

On a plus point the circuit worked well so that is a stage you can be happy with. Its a really interesting project you have underway. Tony Happy Modelling

Tony Hi Tony, As you say the stage in the build is proven to work, so its another step nearer to the finished product. I`ve actually come across a lot less issues than I at first expected, especially as it all started out as rough sketches on a piece of paper. That said its been and is still a fun journey. Hi All, My replacement led`s arrived this morning and after a quick swap over I`ve got a much better result. The three yellow`s are being supplied with 6volts and the green with 12volts in both pics. In pic 1 the 3rd yellow and the green still merge a bit, so in pic 2 I moved the green down to the next space and it looks a lot better. Still got the option of turning the green led down to a 6volt supply to calm it down. Will give it a try later. Note: the colours actually look better to the naked eye than they do to the camera. Next job is to calculate the height of the dio base above the electronics. See you soon. Nice one Derek. They look much better. You could put a little heat shrink tubing around the LED’s to stop the yellow and green blending in from the sides. They used to put a similar cowling on the old fashioned traffic lights to stop the colours from merging. Doesn’t happen so much with the new lights. Keep it coming. Mark

Thanks to all who looked in and to those who left comments. I`m busy planning the dio base at the moment, as the vehicle positioning is critical to where the workings underneath are fixed. That includes the motor drive, the electro-magnet, the magnetic reed switch and the base of the Christmas tree starting lights. I think that`s all for "underneath" the dio base. Then for the Pro-fuel car there`s the electro magnet attraction bar to fit and the micro magnet to operate the reed switch. For the Funny car I have to make a mounting point to keep it in place when everything starts up and that just leaves the scenic side of the dio. Quite a bit still to come for this one. .
