stevie_o wrote:Very nice work, keep the pics coming Steve Hi Steve, Thanks for looking in, I was faltering a very little bit with the continual planking, but I was deliberately taking it slow as not to make any errors and therefore cause more hassle. As a very first attempt at something on this scale, I am very happy with the results. The encouragement from people like yourself is most gratefully accepted by us newbies, as it keeps us going forward. I think a lot of starters would fall by the wayside were it not for the help and advise so freely given on this forum. Many Thanks Regards delboy271155 (Derek) COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

Hi All, Here`s a bit of an update. Now, I`ve moved away from the main hull part of the build as you will see. I am preparing for a large gilding session and to that end I`ve been doing some of the prep work. The stern ornamentation is obviously going to take some time, but I have managed to base coat all the parts and applied the red (Bole - gilding term)coat to most of it. As it is at the moment: (Pic 1) I have also painted in the black backing where required. Following up on the gilding process I have also constructed the bell tower roof and prepped it for gilding. (Pic 2) I hope by early next week to have a large amount of the gilding done, so will update on progress then. Happy Building Regards delboy271155 (Derek) delboy271155 attached the following image(s): COME BACK GUY FAWKES "YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU"

stevie_o wrote:Very nice work Derek, is the red colour to enhance the look of the gold? Steve Hi Steve, Yep, the red coat gives depth to the colour of the gold as it is so thin. In the teaching book I`ve used the red coat is known as the "Bole" and it is also the best colour to use to disguise any minor flaws in the gilding, cos as you can imagine a white base coat would show up like a beacon. Regards Claret Hi Claret, My apologies for this seriously late reply, but just done an eight out of nine day shift and missed it. The gilding is, should I say "testing" at times, but have refined my methods and am pleased with the results. Update to follow very soon.
