So, here we are, nearly 2 and a half years after starting, The hull is finally planked!Laugh

I decided to ignore the instructions about not tapering the planks from wide to thin then back to wide as they followed the twist of the false keel. I couldn't be bothered with stealer planks and found tapering to the exact sizes ended up working perfectly BigGrin

I'm a bit dissapointed that I wasn't so careful when shaving down the false keel at the stern, which has resulted in the width being a bit smaller than the thickness of the keel after I've fitted it, and after sanding.

Not really a major issue as I have just filled it and the entire hull is going to be covered in copper tiles, but I will definitely make sure on any future ships I build to take a bit more time to ensure the thickness of the hull will better match the thickness of the keel

Give quiche a chance!

Well that is a couple of yours very well spent with a brilliant finish to your hull planking.

Copper tiling is the way to go but it seems such a shame to cover up such excellent work.

I can see this turning into a real top class model.
Happy Modelling

Hi Rob,

That hull is gorgeous. It seems almost a pity to cover it in copper, but given the quality work you've put in so far, I've no doubt you'll make the copper tiling look fantastic!

If at first you don't succeed,

maybe you should skip the chainsaw juggling...

Thanks everyone for having a look at my build and for all the positive comments! BigGrin

Small update, finally got the gun ports all lined and the entire hull now sanded smooth. About 8 hours of sanding, lol

Debating whether or not to start the copper tiling now so when it starts getting too monotonous, I can switch it up and keep following the magazines to continue building for some variety!

Loverly job.

To be honest with planking of that quality, I would be staining and varnishing that hull, not covering up with paint or tiles
