Hi All,BigGrin

Decide today to retry the ancient art of "real shopping" as opposed to surfing the net.

I paid a visit to "GeeDee Models" in Nottingham. Brill shop, with very helpful staff and yes, available on the web.

Only made one mistake,Crying went to buy some paint and then instead of browsing the net I started browsing the whole shop, FATAL!!!

I came out with extra paints than I went in for so I could paint the kit I bought whilst in there.LOL

So having got it home thought I`d share the results with you.

Good thing is "Wifey" loves it, as her sons Grandfather was a navigator on a Lancaster in WW2. (I`ve read his personnel diary - chilling)

Anyway here`s the kit.

Some nice artwork to start with.Pic 1

Now the contents:

The parts look very clean, detail also has some very good points like weight loaded tyres.

Only issue I can see at the moment, is the area where the props are situated (see pic), but I don`t think it`s anything a bit of warm water won`t soften to straighten it out.

Here`s the spru`s.Pics 2-4

So here`s the minor issue with the props.Pic 5

Rest seems OK!!Pic 6-7

Here`s the weighted tyres.Pic 8

Now there`s not many decals on this kit, but here they are.Pic 9

As for the instructions, at first glance they do look very clear and concise.Pic 10

Well that completes my first kit review.

Comments/ideas welcome BigGrin

Hi Jase,BigGrin

Firstly thanks for taking a look. Cool

As you guessed, yep this is gonna be a straight out the box build.

Reason one, kit looks good and

Reason two, still got to source approx £175 for the upgrades for the "Battle of the Denmark Straits" which is gonna top the £500 mark as a collection.

Heck only money and you can`t take it with you, LOL

Happy Building

Hi Del, I'll be watching-I've always had a soft spot for Airfix kits from my childhood building days, they were the only kits I bought because you always got pilots with themBigGrin
I built this one also although not this release.
Hope to see this started soon

Hi Steve, BigGrin

You`ll be pleased to know that this one is going to jump the queue.
Reason being that I`m still collecting for the "Denmark Straits", but the collection is coming on strong,Blink .

Lovely memories Delboy! I can still remember my old Airfix Lancaster (moulded in black!), it definately didn't have as many parts as this beauty though! BigGrin

Looking forward to seeing this come together!

Hi Robin,BigGrin

Memories is the right word, this will be the first of many plastic kits I`ll be building in the near future.

Biggest issue is, that this will be the first plastic kit I have built in approx 45 years Crying , good job there`s some cracking tutorials on this site Love Love.

Have found another minor issue with the instructions as far as painting.
The only colours listed are the exterior ones, need about 7/8 for interior detailing.

Oh dear, that means another visit to the shop Drool Drool Drool

Thanks for looking in and

Happy Building

Hi Andy,BigGrin

Thanks for the link. Cool

Having researched what the kit on the link contains and checked it against the parts of the aircraft, I found that the wing flap detail is already there, as is most of the exterior items.

To that end, have checked on good old ebay and purchased:

The flight deck detail kit
seatbelt kit
and masking set

cost £20.65

as opposed to £41.90 for the lot

Result Cool

Hi All,BigGrin

So, here`s a little problem!

The kit contains a trailer with a bouncing bomb, or you can put the bomb in the bomb bay.

So here`s the question.

Does anybody know what vehicle was likely to have pulled the trailer, with the bomb on it to the plane.

Cos, if it`s available in 1:72 then I`ll add it to the build.

Happy Building

I could imagine they probably used a tractor as those where more common and in abundance.. Airfix used to do a tractor and trailer kit a long time ago, you might still be able to get hold of one on fleabay

Hi Spencer,BigGrin

You are not wrong in that idea.Cool

Checked out ebay and other uk sources via my browser and found ground vehicles, inc: bomb trailers and bombs, towing vehicles, tankers etc.
Plus in another kit: ground crew, pilots, oil drums, wheel chocks and more.

Well here comes a dio me thinks.

Many thanks for your input.

Hi All, BigGrin

Here comes another expanded build. Blink Blink

The Lancaster has now gone full-on Dio.

This will include full support vehicles, ground crew, air crew, nissen huts, control tower, bombs, etc, etc.

Then, with the relevant scenery, it will all be fitted into a glass top and sided coffee table. "Hey" two builds in one. LOL LOL

I have acquired nearly everything I need, just waiting on the delivery of the nissen huts, which should be here tomorrow Blink

So here`s the start:

Control Tower.

A couple of the walls with windows and doors fitted.Pic 1

With all main walls built and some paint work we get this.Pic 2

More paint and the addition of the walkway it`s this, including the "penny" shot.Pic 3

Now the start of one vehicle, called a "Tilley" (not complete), with the addition of an unpainted figure you get this.Pic 4

Well that`s the very basic start, more to follow soon.

Any comments and or suggestions gratefully accepted. BigGrin
