In a word NO. If you read Tomicks official build pages he suggests, and I do, that you use a thin plank to check the curve of the hull at bow and stern, making sure that the plank touches as much of each rib as possible. Dave H

The tips of issue 20 also recommends the use of a plank as a fairing check.
