Issue 5 joined onto previous issues.
Noted ply parts a lot harder material than previous re cutting out.

Thought issue 6 would be with five as due date 10th., but after inquiries told that we are going to stay one week behind now with issue 6 only next week.

Hi jock.BigGrin

Yes I think they are just saving their bums by being one issue behind even though they may already have it. If there is another shipping problem then they've got that week to overcome it before next is due.

It is annoying. Mad

Hi George. You appear to be making good progress. Perhaps it was worth the wait. I noticed a comment suggesting the issues are out on Tuesday's! Share my anguish as I have to wait until Thursday. But I do get to enjoy your progress in the interim.

Nice work George, like I have said before, at this stage you are always way ahead of your issues / deliveries and it can be frustrating to have to wait before continuing. When you start planking however you will find that the issues are arriving at twice the speed that you are progressing so you should then be getting your deliveries just when you are ready for themBigGrin

Hi stevie_0

Thanks for comments appreciated always.Cool

Yes regarding planking from the builds I've looked at it will be a lot more time involved each issue than the current all done in less than two hours. BigGrin

I'm up to issue 5, but need to finish a few other ships first, before I start building her.

Looking at those who have had their first 7 issues regarding their build diaries and the much easier situation of joining false keel together in one piece I'd say it's probably better in the long run to have a number of issues before starting build. Some overseas members who purchased whole lot of issues in one box must have been thrilled. Too much for me financially in one hit. BigGrin

Be pleased to see your build of SOTS when you do start on it.

Yes it is a bit small. I jokingly refer to Buzz Lightyear as my mentor and whilst a bit of family fun I do relate to the character, hence the mounted shirt in my study.

I thought you might like to also see the 'smoothing" tools I use for some of the detailed working, including planking (which will come later) I make these from strips of right angle aluminium (about 75 mm long)using double sided tape on one of the outside faces and attach finer grades of glass paper / wet and dry. I find these very useful and effective. I can also use them to get a reasonably square edge on strips strips, placing the strip on a slightly raised board and then running the 'sanding strip' along the face to give a 'squarish edge'.

Hope photos help (including the one of Buzz)BigGrin

Hi bb1949

Understand now your mentor. Saw pic behind you but couldn't make out details. BigGrin

Great idea re aluminium angle for sanding purposes as you've described. I just happen to have some pieces of aluminium angle as cut-offs when I used previously for roof top finish and sides of entry recess for a dog kennel so will look at making up a sander with them.Cool

Any ideas are always welcome. BigGrin

I'm certainly gonna' need all the help possible once we get to planking stage. BigGrin

George I see in one of your more recent photos you have "trial fitted" part 16 which is the bulkhead from issue 5. Did you have an issue in getting it right angle to the false keel. I trial fitted mine and found it was out by at least 2mm and if I forced it square that tended to warp the false keel. My remedy is to take the edge off the side blocks of timber used to strengthen the join at that point but leave the central hole alone which is slowly bringing back the alignment. Issue 6 tomorrow BigGrin
