Hi everyone,
I've just been reading the admin page where there was a mention about better packaging which contained a few comments about how some builders receive their packages in a less than ideal condition because of the way the postal service treats our personal mail.
I would like to say that I feel very lucky in this respect because where I live, my postal service is great! Our post lady always rings the bell if there is anything larger than a letter to pop through the door ( not that we have a small letter-box - quite the opposite in fact) so any packages, including my much awaited monthly Victory package is handed over to me personally, and she is always cheerful and courtious.
I can only feel for those of us who do not get the service we expect, but I do believe (and this is only a personal opinion)that on the whole we have a very good postal service, and I admire those wonderful people who are out in all weathers just so we can eagerly awaited packages.
I should mention that I am a retired electrical maintenance engineer, not a postman, nor do I have any relatives or friends in the post office.
Anyway, I'll get off the soapbox now and wish you all happy building.

Your a lucky man mate!!!
The postal service in our area is an absolute shambles, if were not receiving other peoples mail at least once a week, were receiving damaged mail, we have complained about this but the main sorting office seems to think it operates under different guidelines to the Royal mail customer service department, so far we have been informed to use the correct post code, when the mail isn't even ours??? and on the damage side of things, we were informed by the sorting office manager that damaged mail is between us and the sender, and that they cannot be held responsible for any damages unless insurance is taken out by the sender, but on the other hand, the customer service department stated that, any damages should be reported to your local post master, or sorting office manager for investigation?

Also we have a different postman each month, and when trying to hand back mail that is clearly not our address, we are often looked at like were from a different planet, so until we can actually get a decent service, I have no time for the Royal mail postal service.

PS It can sometimes take three weeks before we receive our magazines from DeAgostini's dispatch date.

yup you see this is what i was talking about before. i have the EXACT same problems as you lonestar.
royal mail in thier richouse minds just dont care. i too have reported damaged mail.
i've actually refused to accept mail before so it goes back to the sorting office and our office manager just recons that it was like that when royal mail must have received it. i asked him "why would someone send this out?". and he just said some people are spiteful like that. when i said that no self respecting company like barnes marsland, a SOLICITOR!, would send a letter in this state. it was croumpled, torn, had a boot print on it and something spilt on it. like the postman spilt a drink in the bag as 2 of my other letters from that day had the same spill. the letter was a court date from sueing someone and when i opened it in the sorting office, infront of the manager most of it was illegable. royal mail needs to get thier act together.

i strongly think deag, if they begin to charge for better packaging should also include the cost of registered or signed for mail service. i'd happily pay for ALL my mail to come signed for or registered. cause they never seem to be damaged.
