BigGrin Hi All
I have always liked x-sections and between the decks dio's as they impart so much more about ship board life at the times they depict. Mantua do some very fine period single cannon dio's but I have always liked the busyer kits. There are two kits by Panart that keep catching my eye one being totally non pc being the 'Open Whaler Lancia Baleniera ' the other being there 'Between the decks section ' with two brass cannon based on an 18th century English fighting ship. Lots of extra's and details to add as the pictures show.
I will be starting this little gem shortly hope you will enjoy the build as much as I will

BigGrin Hi All
Thanks for the comments and looking in, now on with the build the parts have been cut out as needed from the laser cut ply and sanded back to remove the soot.
Firstly the 3 main frames were glued together the drilled and 2 mm dowels added to strengthen the joints and after a good sanding the upper and lower precut cross members were glued in place. After this the 36 knees have been added to the upper cross members and sanded smooth to follow the contour of the upper deck.
At the hull sides side the lower base plank was added and the 4 fillets glued in place to which was added the uprights that will be the edges of the gun ports and the upper cross planks added here.
Finally the 4 strengthener beams have been added to the rear deck side, I have placed a 300 mm metal rule in some of the pictures to give you an idea of the size of this model.
More to follow
regards

Hi Andy,BigGrin

Looks like a good start and that frame has the look of a sturdy construction.
Can`t wait to see this progress, it`s edging into my ever growing wish list Blink and then onto the yet to build list. Cool

Hi Andy, Im going to love watching this come together, definitely my kind of build. Just wondering, do you see any difficulties in planking the inside deck and walls and adding the columns as the frame seems to hinder access slightly?

BigGrin Hi Steve
Thanks for looking in and your comments.
There is plenty of room to add the decks and hull planking and this is added next in the build with a rather novel way of adding the joints and trenails.
The pillars come in three parts a turned wood upper and lower section with dowel provided for the central part so each one in theory can be tailored to its position.

Interesting to watch this as already it is not building as I expected. I imagined the lower gun deck was constructed first before the framing for the upper deck.

Doing a great job as always AndyCool

BigGrin Hi Jase
Thanks for looking in and your comments.
Building her in the way you thought would be nice, almost as though a full size ship would be built but this I think would not give any strength to the modell . The best way to explain this is think of a barrel with decks going up the inside as it is a compleate circle the whole circle strengthens it all but cut out a section and it collapses.
So the compromise that Panart have used is more than adequate to do the job and add strength to it .
