Hello everyone. I am going to attempt to fulfill a childhood dream and build a model of a mighty sailing ship.I considered building a plastic kit but ultimately decided on a wooden kit because I felt it would be more of a challenge. When I saw part 1 of SOTS I thought ,"Thats the one" so I bought it , read the magazine and subscribed that day.Fast forward a month and I now have 7 parts in my possession.Time to start. I would like to point out that I have no experience in ship building-I am a complete novice.I have decided to do a build diary so I can share my experience with everyone.Plus I thought it would interesting for people to see a ship being built by someone who doesn't know what they're doing. I have no idea what I'm getting myself into but I'm sure I'll get lots of support.Wish me luck. As I've said I have the first seven parts . I've bagged them and am now ready to go.

Hi Mattytanya Welcome to the world of wooden ship building. Many of us who started out were novices, me included! Now already one year down the line and I'm still enjoying it! Hi Mattytanya and welcome. As George said you are not alone in this being your first build. I am the same, but have plenty of support to date from this forum. The biggest thing is to take your time. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have so far and good luck. Regards

Sovereign of the Seas build diary Day 1. Hello everyone. Construction begins.I started off by putting together the keel and rib sections.No dramas here.After gluing I placed heavy books on the parts to keep them flat.I then started on the bow section.I'll wait until I get more cannons before I start on them.Tomorrow I will build the assembly jig. Hi mattytanya Looks really good so far. I can see the benefit of having issues up to 7 like you have. It makes the false keel much easier to lay out flat when glued than doing in sections with rib frames in regards getting issues one at a time and putting together. Once you have the keel jig in place of either type (Angle Brackets or Board) it will ensure everything is straight. Will look in on your next pics. Regards George1 Building HMS SOTS

Hi Matty Another great SOTS build on the way It is hard when you are waiting for the postman but have you considered getting a "filler" kit to build during the waiting period? Also, as soon as you start the planking the issues will start to build up and you will have some in reserve. Steve

Looks like you've made a nice clean start to your build I remember in the early stages how frustrating it was waiting for the next issue, but like Steve said, when you start the planking phase you'll have plenty of hours of work to keep you busy. Regards Paul Building - Sovereign Of The Seas
