Hello all,

I'm seeking a bit of advice regarding the fitting of the side skirts / chassis (Issue 30/31) to base plate (Issue 6). As stated in a previous post I've had these parts replaced, but that hasn't solved the issue. I'm interested in others experiences so I can determine if I'm missing something obvious or if I need to once again request a replacement.

The issue is that the screw holes on either edge don't seem to align properly. As a result the baseplate does not sit properly in the recesses in the base of the skirt and the skirts don't sit correctly against the left and right bargeboard stays.

I measured the distance between the screw holes on all the parts I have; the numbers clearly don't add up.

All measurements to screw hole centres, front of car to back.

Baseplate 1, LHS 44.35 - 44.20 - 37.80, 126.35 Total
Baseplate 2, LHS 44.35 - 44.15 - 37.40, 125.90 Total
LH Skirt 1, 45.10 - 45.20 - 38.20, 128.50 Total
LH Skirt 2, 45.05 - 45.10 - 38.30, 128.45 Total

Baseplate 1, RHS 42.85 - 60.70 - 25.25, 128.80
Baseplate 2, RHS 42.85 - 60.70 - 24.80, 128.35
RH Skirt 1, 43.30 - 61.40 - 25.35, 130.05
RH Skirt 2, 43.30 - 61.45 - 25.35, 130.10

As you can see from the measurements, the original and replacements are pretty much spot on size wise but do not match up very well. I have considered altering the holes on the plastic skirts and taking a metal file to the baseplate, but i'm a little concerned that making an adjustment to fix the alignment will just shift the problem to a later step and that if i alter the screw holes the crews wont do their job properly.

I'll add some photo's, but what I can't show is that the tip of the skirts are bent pretty significantly to achieve the current fit and sit inside the front bulkhead rather than against it.

But, before I go 'getting creative' I'd like to know if anyone else is having similar issues and how they went about solving them.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Hi Chris,

There has only been one mention of this before and seems to have been resolved as there is no other mention of misalignment. The side skirts and chassis are a tight fit to give the underbody a rigid/ stiff base for the engine etc to sit. Maybe put all the parts together as intended in the build sequence and you will see that all should turn out well. If you are still having problems then it is a case of requesting another replacement. Hope this helps BigGrin

Thanks Spencer,

The fact that the replacements were almost exactly the same size as the originals gives me a bit of comfort. I'll take your advice and press on, if I encounter issues down the track at least I will have a better perspective on the problem.
