I am about 6 weeks into the build of this gigantic ship. I found that there is not yet a lot of information available on this (very new)model. So another diary here might be usefull to future builders. My information will NOT be very detailed because I keep forgetting to make pictures.

Before showing progress, my first impressions (i.e. 6 weeks into the build) : * The basic structure is almost beyond belief. For a 6 foot ship it's important that it is rigid. Every structural part seems to be fitting perfectly. You can take the ship by the bow if you wish, it won't even bend. (might break though, don't try ) * This ship is intended to be RC controlled and not really a static model (which is what I want). The finish is not as good as it seems at first glance. No planking on the decks, no real double planking for the hull. No copper or metal rings in the portholes. And so on. So... there is work to be done beyond the boxed version

Hi,
If you can scale your pictures down to 640 pixels in width then they will appear in the post, rather than as a download.
Nice to see another one of these large ships under way.

Hi Wieltje That certainly is a big ship at 6ft long. Looking great so far. Makes building SOTS look a little puny. Love to get that model but just wouldn't have room to display. Will look in periodically out of interest in your build. Regards George1 Building HMS SOTS

Welcome to ModelSpace Wieltje and congratulations on your first medal
Great to see another of these monsters being built, do you plan to R/C it or build as a static?

To George : if you take a look at my pictures you might notice that I've build a SOTS (Sergal) before this ship. SOTS is a great ship ! It's going to be very difficult for this Titanic to get anywhere close to that. (build pleasure, end result) To Mr T : I'm buildig it as a static but that will require quite some extra work (and materials). It's rather intended to be an RC model by Billing Boats I guess.

Hull planking, first layer. (will have to be done rather carefully, there is no real second layer!) Wieltje attached the following image(s):

A bit over halfway there . No sanding done yet. That'll be some sanding job coming my way. This is where I am now. Next posts will take a while (or at least pictures of further build). In summertime I do not work that much on the models. Wieltje attached the following image(s):

Still waiting for the missing parts (laser cut 3269). The brass tubes for the prop shafts may well be in there, but I decided not to wait. Since I am building it static, there is no real need for them. I used the joining part for the two halves as tube on its own in element number 29. Of course ONLY a solution for the static version. Four parts of scrap wood are used to protect the window-structures. Without this protection they are guaranteed to break once you turn the ship upside down. (during hull planking you will have to) Wieltje attached the following image(s):

A very difficult part of the hull is the housing of the prop shafts. The drawings of Billing Boats suggest a way to do it, but as you will see on the pictures I went for a construction keeping all 2 mm planks parallel to each other. Worked out reasonably well. Will of course need some sanding. Wieltje attached the following image(s):
