As well as building ships of the period, I enjoy a good story book as well. I decided a week or two ago to start re-reading my Thomas Kydd series by Julian Stockwyn.

The first book describes the experiences of a young man caught up in the 'press' and how he resigns himself to a life at sea.

For those of you building a wooden ship model of this period for the first time, if you want to get into what it must have been like on these ships, I can strongly recommend you get the first book in this seriesa. Called 'Kydd', it is available in paperback from Amazon.

You will also start to learn more about how these ships were worked and how they sailed.

Thanks Mike,
I'll have a look at that as I'm looking for a good book like this to take on holiday!
Was thinking of something by Patrick O'Brian, but I reckon I'll check this out first.

Cheers,
Tom
