Santa Maria build diary. Day 1. Hello everyone. I'm new to ship modelling and have just begun building the Sovereign of the Seas.It was suggested to me that I do a filler kit while waiting for the parts to arrive so I bought the Revell Santa Maria that was on sale at a toy shop.I'm going to build it straight out of the box but I'm not sure about the sails as they are plastic and look weird.I'll worry about them when I get to them. I've glued the hull and deck together an will prime them before painting.I'm hoping this ship will be the first of many as I'm really enjoying this hobby. Here are some pics. Cheers, Matty. mattytanya attached the following image(s):

Lovely little kit Matty, take your time otherwise you will need one of these a week to keep you busy The sails can be made to look ok with some careful painting but you can also drape some thin material over those "molds" and soak them with pva glue, when dry they will more or less retain their shape and can be trimmed off, they can also be matt lacquered after for extra stiffness. Good luck with it Steve
