So without sounding like a complete noob can someone explain the tools in the toolkit? Mine arrived today but I don't have a clue as to what some of them do or what they are for. Any help would be appreciated Confused

Hi Roywhitworth, BigGrin

I think I`ve got the right set here, only I have a few from different builds.

I will tell you what`s in the pic and you can see if it fits with what you have.

Top Layer:

From the top/down

My top space is unfortunately empty, but I seem to remember a chisel blade knife. This will remove quite a bit of wood at a time (and finger) so gently does it, a little at a time is much better.

After that are two files, one flat other round.
Flat for flat surfaces, round for curved surfaces and holes.

Next down is a pair of angled tweezers, very useful for getting parts into the right place where there is not much space, or where there is space, because of the bend you can see past your hand to the work piece.

Next down is a pair of pointed nose pliers, great for working with wire for holding and bending, can also be used for holding small parts.

Last on this side of the case is a pair of cutters. These will cut pins, wire and THIN brass plate or plastic if not to thick.

Bottom Layer:

So, on the left, (long black handle with corkscrew metal end.
This is an archamedian drill, a modelers drill that uses very little pressure for micro drilling down to parts of a millimeter.
At the very tip is a small vice type clamp that will hold very small drill bits. There is a very small collar behind the end clamp, you hold this between thumb and index finger and with the other hand gently push the black handle, as you do this the drill head will rotate and make the required hole as you push very gently forward.

The big item in the middle that looks like a big pair of scissors, is a pair of plank benders.
These do exactly that.
With gentle pressure you can put small shallow cuts in a strip of wood, this will allow the wood strip to bend without snapping.
Mainly used in ship building, but if we have to bend some strip wood for the spitfire, it will be very useful.

The item to the right is a pin pusher. there is a small hole in the end into which you place the head of a pin. The point will stick out of the end. You can then place the point of the pin where you require and gently push the handle and a rod inside pushes the pin home.
Can get into tighter places than a hammer and with a bit of practice, a lot less bent pins.

The small plastic box, (Top Centre), holds replacement blade for the plank benders, a micro drill (other sizes may be required) and a different size clamp for the inside of the drill to accommodate a range of drill bit sizes.

First I hope this is the right kit.
Second if it is, then I hope this helps you in your quest.

Happy Building

and any more questions then just ask, there`s always people on this forum ready to help.
