When I saw a video for the D51 I thought I saw that the wheels move on the finished model.
There is a gear on one of the wheels which looks like you could use to drive the running gear with a small motor.
Now I have seen the latter part of the instructions it seems like there is no motor to drive the running gear, even though the running gear is on bearings on the display base.
So is there a motor that drives the running gear or is it available as an option. It would be really cool to see the running gear in motion.

Maybe in the Japanes release it had a motor.I do see a cutout in the base that a power cord could pass through. If so and it is not available in the US version can we get some details about the set up so we can scratchbuild it?

BigGrin Hi Derbyvet
If you take a look at the latest part of the official build you will see that the rolling road parts are being fitted to the base plates. As for the motor I think this arrives at around stage 94 or the package last but one from the final package. Hope this helps

THe mystery is solved.I thought the motor would be mounted to the base.I didn't realize it would be in the train itself. This really is a wonderful model.More please!!!!
