Stage 56 - Contains upper wing skin plates 1, 3, 5, 7 & 11, and a template.

Cut the overhang of the tube at the wingtip end, flush with the end rib of the wing.

Take the diecast leading edge parts provided with Stages 54 and 55, and carefully remove any burrs.

Test-fit then glue edge 6, against the left wing wingtip as shown. Then test-fit and glue edge 5 to the front of the wingtip, up against edge 6.

Test-fit then glue leading edge 4 along the front of the left wing, up against leading edge 5. Follow this with fixing leading edges 3, 2 and 1 in place.

Carefully store the wing skin plates.

Stage 57 - Contains a machine-gun body, machine-gun magazine, cannon and pins.

Place upper wing plate #1 on the template, both from the previous stage. The template is used to identify the different plates and to mark the rivet line detail on them.

Place the plate onto the template in the position shown in the isntructions. Use a fine marker to transfer the dotted line from the template to the plate.
Now position the plate at the other side of the template and transfer the line onto this end. Place a rule up against the two marks made, and join them together.

Retrieve the rivet makaing tool provided with with Stage 4. Place the wing plate on some card, align a metal rule with the line marked in the previous step and roll the marker along the line applying even light pressure.
Now turn over to view the plate from the front side. If the process in the previous step was done correctly, there should be a line of small bumps along the line on the plate, simulating rivets.

Turn the plate over so the back side is facing up and lightly abrade the surface with emery paper. This will improve glue adhesion later on.

Retrieve the left wing. Run a fine graned sanding sponde along the surface of the diecast leading edges of the. This should not only polish it, but also smooth out any scratches.
An abrasvie metal polish can be used to polish out any fine scratches and polish the metal to a smooth sheen, but be sure to remove any trace of the polishing agent using a degreaser, as any trace may prevent paint adhesion later on.

All the plates supplied are going to be used to cover the airframe. You will be shown at a later stage how to secure them to the wings and fuselage. You can practice making the pin-hole mounting holes using the plates from Stage 1 and the awl from Stage 55.

Carefully store plate #1 and the machine-gun body, machine-gun magazine, cannon and pins for later use.

Stage 58 - Contains wing plates #2, 9 & 12 and a template.

Sand the end of both wings to remove any excess glue or unevenness from the first ribs.

At this point, you can if you wish, glue/join both wing halves together. However, I have opted not to do this at this stage as not doing so will make it easier to handle the left wing half during plating process, which get's underway in the next stage.

Cut the excess tube in line with the edge of the last rib of the right wing, then repeat with the tupe of the left wing.

Now cut away the ends of the tubes, in line with the second (angled) rib of each wing half.

Carefully store the wing plates and template.

Stage 59 - Contains upper wing plate #4, large and small cannon.

Place upper wing plate #3 from Stage 56 onto the corresponding shape on the template. Then slide towards the edge and mark the ends of the dotted lines onto the surface of the plate.

Perform the same process at the other end of the plate. Hold a ruler up against the lines and draw along it to connect them.

Place the wing plate on some card, align a ruler with the line marked in the previous step and roll the rivet marker along the line, applying light pressure. Turn the plate over to check the rivets, then roughen the back side with emery paper.

Plate #3 will fit onto the top of the wing at the point shown. Test-fit the plate in place, ensuring that it fits flush with the curvature of the wing. To help you shape the plate to fit the wing, bend it over something like a spray can. Test-fit against the wing again and bend it more if necessary.

At this point you may wish to leave the fitting of this plate until the next stage, where the end plate is fitted and you can ascertain the exact postiion of plate #3, to avoid any gap betwen the two.

The leading edges have a small ledge which the forward edge of the plates sit upon.

I chose to lightly mark the five pin holes on the plate using the mini awl tool, then carefully drill out each hole using a 0.75mm drill bit,

Apply a quick-setting adhesive along the ribs and leading edge of the wing, (I used Loctite ultra gel which is a specially formulated rubber toughened CA instant adhesive that resists impact, shock & vibration).

Place the plate up against the leading edge first, working towards the back of the wing, pressing the plate down onto the ribs as you go.

When the glue has set, I used a 0.45mm drill bit into each of the pin holes to create a pilot hole for the pins to be push-fit inserted rather than hammered. Fit a pin (from Stage 57) into each of the 5 holes made in the plate.

Carefully store the remaining plate and parts.

Stage 60 - Contains diecast wingtip & leading edge parts for the right wing, and pins.

Test-fit, then glue the right wingtip leading and trailing edge parts as you did wit the left wing, then test-fit and glue leading edge #4.

If you have not already done so, lightly scour the reverse side of wing plate #1 from Stage 57, then curve the plate so that it fits up against plate 3 already fitted on the left wing in Stage 59.
The front edge of the plate should be up against the leading edge. Check the alignment as shown then glue the plate in position.

Carefully store the remaining pins.

Stage 61 - Contains wheel-well housing parts.

Place upper wing plate 5 onto the template (both from Stage 56) to verify it is the correct plate.

Scour the reverse side of the plate, then as before, shape it over a can to fit the contour shape of where the plate will be placed upon the left wing section.

Test-fit the plate in place up against plate #3, and ensure its rear is in alignment with the rear edge of plate #3. If necessary, cut away any excess of the plate.

Apply glue to the areas of the wing that will be in contact with the plate and then glue plate #5 in place.

Mark the 6 pin-hole positions in the plate with the awl tool, (four across the front edge and two along the rear edge) as shown, then insert a pin into each of the six holes.

Carefully store the parts provided with this stage.

Stage 62 - Contains upper wing plates 8, 10 & 13, and a template sheet.

Use the template sheet to identify upper wing plate 7 (Stage 56). Prepare the in the same way as the previous plates, cutting it to size, if necessary, and shaping with over a can. Test-fit then glue plate 7 in position, up against plate 5.

Make a hole in all four corners of plate 7 and also along the front edge, aligned with the central ribs, then insert pins into the holes.

Identify plate 9 by placing it on the template (Stage 58). Prepare the in the same way as the previous plates, cutting it to size, if necessary, and shaping as before. Test-fit then glue plate 9 in position, up against plate 7.

Make a hole in all four corners of plate 9 and insert a pin into each hole.

Carefully store the remaining plates and template.

Stage 63 - Contains diecast leading edges 1, 2 & 3 for the starboard wing, and pins.

Layout, then test fit and glue all three leading edge sections onto the starboard (right) wing half as you did with those of the left wing half.

Then use a sponge backed sanding pad to polish the entire leading edge as you did with the leading edge of the right wing half.

Retrieve plate #11 and the template sheet (Stage 56). Test-fit, prepare, glue and pin plate #11 at the near wing tip end of the port (left) wing half.

Carefully store the remaining pins.
