Hi Everyone, I know at the start of this build some of you were asking about models of the D51 already available. I have spotted numerous 'N' gauge models (a little small!), a 1:50 plastic kit and recently a 1:87 (H0 scale) electric model. Then I spotted this 1:42 model in Japan. The model measures 44cms long and is of metal construction, although the wheels and motion gear all rotate this is a display model that doesn't run and was not intended to. From information it was made by Mitsui Metal Craft in around 1985. The detail is excellent and mirrors the quality of the DeAgostini artworks. Although the back head is somewhat limited. As you can see it is modelled on D51 213 and is obviously similar to D51 200. regards Dennis Dennis attached the following image(s):

Hi Andy,
Yes I am pleased, remarkable detail which I can recognize on the DeAgostini build and various other sources. I spotted it on eBay, went on holiday and it was still there when I got back. Made an offer and its here. I am surprised no-one in Japan wanted it. Cheers Dennis

Hi Steve/Mark/Spencer,
Thank you. Yes a very nice model. Suspect these may of been sold finished but as yet I cannot find any more information. Some evidence of brass parts where paint has come off. Although a small number of cross head screws which look more like it was sold complete/manufactured. If I can discover anything else I will advise. I just thought it should be shared in view of detail and similarity to DeAgostini.
cheers
Dennis
