This is a build diary I started a while ago so I thought I would refresh it and bring it up to date!!
Well being as I seem to have found myself with large amounts of spare time, I have started my 1:16 T-34/85 by Trumpeter. I am going to build it inbetween other builds, as it is a super detailed kit and I will be adding extras, like a full PE set for interior and exterior, metal barrel and other goodies!! :D Next to my 1:35 T-34/85!! From Left to Right:- 1:16 Trumpeter Kingtiger, 1:16 T-34/85, 1:35 T-34/85 Large box of bits!! Schumo barrel! Suspension done. Dry fit of wheels and tracks. I am not happy with the tracks so I have some metal ones coming. The suspension is fully working.

Nice detail on this kit. P.E machine gun ammo rack!!! Test fit of metal tracks.......PERFECT!!!!!! I have started on the engine and transmission. They are a model all on their own! Some painting done. Completed engine I added some injector pipes made from Friul track wire.

I'm sure you will do a great job on it. I'm not really into Military vechicles as a rule but when i came across one built up to issue 90 for just over £80 and complete with issues up to 120 it was too good a deal to miss Al

looking forward to watching this. Did the etch and metal tracks come with the kit? Jase “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Hi Jase, some pe came with the kit but the metal tracks and barrel are upgrades and I also bought the full pe sets that are available for it.
Dry fit of engine and transmission Engine and transmission are now done.

Some mods done to the upper hull to allow the engine and transmission to be seen. Engine bay done. Engine fitted next.

If it was me it would be in the back garden by now!!!!!

Engine and transmission fitted. Its a shame so much is hidden when the upper hull is on, but I have made sure as many hatches and inspection panels open as possible. Just a few injector marks to fill in the panels that will be seen!!!

I have made a start on some of the sub assemblies and making up some of the PE sets. Well the barrel was a pain in the ass!!! Its a Schumo barrel designed for this kit, and it didnt fit!!! I had to make a collar out of the original plastic kit part and spend 2 hours sanding it down to make it fit!!! Its done though and looks great!! I have finished the mods to the rear transmission cover and inspection plate, now ready for primer.

A brilliant start Daran and if your Tiger I was anything to go by this will be another stunning build from you - looking forward to watching the build progress my friend!!
I like the look of these larger 1:16 military kits and I'm seriously tempted to get myself one of the Trumpeter 1:16 'M16' Multiple Gun Carriage kits this year - I have some great reference material for it and I love those half-track vehicles plus that .50cal Quad Gun on the back of it has some amazing detail in it?!
Keep the updates coming Daran and thanks for posting.

The rear of the hull has now been modified to allow the rear engine cover to open. I will probably leave the other covers as a dry fit to allow me to display the engine, but I will ponder this as I go and may modify the hull some more to allow more hatches to open. The last photo is a dry fit of the PE rear panel locating plates.

Lovely build, just been looking back through it. I really like the way the metal tracks sag on the wheels, you can see the weight of them. Steve
