The figures supplied are around 40mm tall so that would say this build is based at around the 1/48 - 1/50 mark Steve

So now thats sorted I intend to use other wood rather than mdf (but will still keep it if needed else where) what is the most used wood for a ship of this scale (what ship modelers use) Im guessing 2 or 3 different types tho... any help on this will be appreciated Supaheli

Normally plywood for the frames, basswood for anything that needs carving or shaping and lime for planking. Walnut can also be used and this will give you a nice darkwood contrast where needed. I also intend to use Tanganyika for the decking instead of the cardboard Steve

You gave the impression in your first post that you were already aware of the dimensions of the kit, it was just the scale you were unsure of? Steve

Hi Supaheli I'm not building the Black Pearl myself, still working on the DeAg Victory. Being as the 'pearl' is a part-work, I would have thought that somewhere in the first few pages there would be a mention of the physical size of her. (With the 'Vic' part-work, issue #1 came with a supplement which gave a brief overview of the build including the scale and physical dimensions of the finished build.) As the Black pearl is only a galleon derived from a fantasy film and not a 'real' ship, I would say that giving it a 'correct' scale would be nigh on impossible - only a 'near enough' scale would have been implemented by the manufacturer of the part-work, again depending on the final physical size of the model. Happy building David

Steve yes...why I ask is that ive seen other model ships that have a scale size and not by a dimension...and why I asked for a scale size is to ask you or others if white oak can be used seeing that the scale size is bigger than 1/25 Supaheli

Happy building David oh ok... seeing that this is my first ever ship build im trying to ask as many questions so I can to take the right path when the time comes to build it or to start to build it...im not trying to ask stupid questions either. If ship building was as easy as rc cars I wouldnt have any problems or ask for help Supaheli

The scale is approximate for the exact reason stated by Daffy, in that the ship is fictional so no real size to work from. However, as I mentioned the figures supplied are 40mm tall, so as far as these go the ship is based on the 1/48 to 1/50, so the scale is actually smaller than 1/25 not bigger. Steve

Hi again Supaheli Not a stupid question, in fact nothing on here is a stupid question. We're all in this together friend and sometimes the 'stupid' questions can turn out out to be very interesting and intriguing ones and supply lots of answers to builders who may not have even thought of the question. Carry on asking Happy building David
