I subscribed to RSA agent as I did not want to be in a position were the news agency suddenly stopped suppling as the demand falls.

I recived my intro leter today and am disapointed as the issue of the free gifts are not a advertised on the web page.

1st delivery (issue 1 and 2)Free issue which is sold at discounted price in the news agencies

2nd delivery (next 4 issues)free magazine binded

3rd delivery (next 4 issues)Magnifing glass

4th delivery (next 4 issues)plus tool kit

As I am a newbie and dont have any special tools for model building I will have to wait for approx 3 months before I start or I go and buy tools which will be duplicated when the tool kit arrives.

Is this the type of service we are going to get in RSA

Hi Atholm

The way they mailing it here is identical to the way they are doing it anywhere else in the world. Its not an eish South African thing. If you read the posts the more knowledgeable guys reckon the tool kit aint that great and so I have sourced tools from a good hobby shop. I was going to wait the 3 months but thankfully I haven't - it is great fun building this thing even if i am only 3 issues in BigGrin
Current build : The Victory
Pending builds : none - yet
Built loads of bikes trucks planes and boats - all plastic kits.
on wish list - a 1:24 spitfire, in wood, plastic, just as long as I can build it :)

hi, don't despair! I have built a couple of models, and, until your tool kit arrives, you can make do with very minimal tools, especially in the very early stages. Pretty much until you are done with planking, you will be fine.

You will need to get a craft knife, and some sand paper, you can stick some to a block of wood to make a sanding block. Good tweezers are a must, and some spikes for drilling holes. I used thin metal rods ground to a point at one end for that. Apart from that, a small pair of pliers, side cutters and a very small hammer are useful, but not essential. All this stuff can be gotten or made at really low cost, so you won't feel bad when your tools arrive. Other stuff you can make is a jig (finally got round to making mine today, the forums have some really good ideas) and a table clamp. These are definitely not part of the tool kit, so you may consider buying them if mony isn't too much of an issue. Once you get the tool kit, you can decide what else, if anything, you want to suppliment it with

Otherwise, one of your best tools is the internet, including this forum, for advice and additional reference photos.

Hope this helps, enjoy the build.

Hi Atholm,

I'm a newbie as well and decided before I even subscribed that I will invest in some good quality tools as the need arives. I hope this will not be my last and only build so good tools might come in handy in future builds.

Hope you are going to enjoy the build just as much. BigGrin

Thanks to all for their advise and encouragement.

What I am finding difficult is the waiting. I subscribed with Jacklin on the 1 Sept and have only received an email confirming my order and a letter of confirmation date 2 Sept which was received on 14 Sept.

For interest the letter of confirmation states that the first 2 issues will be with you "shortly" thereafter every 4 weeks 4 issues will be dispatched.

I have attached a copy of the body of the confirmation letter "I hope"
