Morning troops, Just received my GSX1300R Hayabusa in the mail yesterday, looks really good. I was wondering how many will never build it and keep it in the packages hoping for it to rise in value? I'm not going to start until I get most of the issues delivered. cheers Good judgement comes from experience, and often experience comes from bad judgement.

Sauceman That is a very good point because there are a number of people that do just that.. I feel lucky (some might disagree)'in that over the last few months I gave been able to purchase a complete collection of build the titanic by hachette as well as a full unopened set of build the Red Barons DR1. While both were in the realms of "need to consider the cost carefully" neither kits came anyway close to the actual cost someone paid to complete the issues. What does however seem to have some value are individual issues of kits being sold with some sellers holding out for "silly" prices , but I guess if someone needs an edition bad enough they are likely to pay. It may happen, but usually not. The Hachette Tiger was an 800 pound partwork, seen them on ebay for 250. Thats a big loss!!!

I have to agree, most of the complete sets are going on eBay for a considerable loss, I myself purchased a complete tiger tank set for £250 which as Nemesis rightly pointed out is a hugh loss.
You could take a punt with selling the individual issues but then you will risk still being out of pocket and stuck with a load of issues no one needs

It's a silly idea really. Partworks get produced in vast numbers so the volume negates the long term value. Complete kits you cannot recoup your cost on as people will tend to pay a smaller amount for a branded kit. Take the U boat that just appeared on the forum would you by that as a compleat kit or a RC sub for the same or less? Part works are great for spreading cost and extra support especially for thouse new to the hobby. I have seen some sell individual copies for £1 more but it's a lot if effort for not much return. So I guess the consensus of opinion is that anyone collecting with a view to making a "killing" in years to come is in for a major disappointment. That said ( and sounding very selfish  ) I am glad that some people follow this route otherwise 2 kits I have drooled over  for so long would not have been available to me. So pick your model from all of the many wonderful items presently available and enjoy the fun of building something special. Happy modelling Tony Happy Modelling
