BigGrin Hi All

The kit comes in a very large box with Airfix's standard artwork, when opened a large amount of sprue's are present in a very full box. On inspection the sprue's are clean of any major flash although some is present on a few parts and also some ejector pins could have been better placed on some parts. The clear parts are seperatly wrapped in there own protective cover and tissue paper. The instructions come in a booklet non of the flimsy bits of paper were used to.There are 4 different decal versions to pick from and also included are all the dials and panel instructions.
The moulding of the wing skins and fuselage is excellent what Airfix have done here is to mould everything in, so on other kits the use of etch to enhance certain area's is not needed on this kit. I also bought the build the Typhoon book shown in the last picture.
Over all a very well moulded kit with some excelent detail but i would reccomend the dry fitting of all components.

Regards

Brilliant review on a very nice Airfix release indeed.

They really are pulling off some excellant models these days and this looks a very busy kit with parts to keep you busy for ages.

Happy Modelling

I have seen a few build logs of this and it certainly does look like a fantastic kit.

How does your clear cockpit parts look? Seems to be quite common that they haven't come out very well on a lot of kits.

BigGrin Hi Tony and Dave

Thanks for looking in and your comments, as for the glass parts the main canopy has a very small optical defect towards the rear but its so small its not worth commenting on and it can only be seen from a certain angle anyway.

BigGrin Hi Spencer, Steve and Alan

Thanks for looking in and your comments, as far as I am aware the only enhancements available are some cockpit decals and a generic 1/24 seat belt kit, there is no etch with the kit as these details are already moulded into the airframe and cockpit. I have found no etch for this kit from the usual providers of after market enhancements and have not heard of any that is to be produced, although some may turn up in the future. TBH the detail is excellent and i have no qualms about just doing an OOTB build with it.

Looks like there are a few more additions becoming avalable suitable for this kit. Rather like the brass turned Hispano canons that hannants are now offering Drool

http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AX19002

Are you going to add the mini motor to power the prop on yours?

Interesting to see your canopy moulding which has pips on the edges and a fairly thick connecting point to the fret. Mine has arrived minus the pips, a much thinner fret connection which has seen the canopy bending down in transit with a beautiful split now from fret connection and about half cm into the canopy itself - totally unusable Cursing. Odd packing on the clear as well as there are two packs (main canopy and on a different fret wing light glass and instrument panel) these are wrapped in kitchen paper, then put into a foam sleeve, and then bagged.

It does seem that they have a couple of different moulds going here. Not sure about yours but my box says made in India.

Just trying to think what the Revell kit was I looked at recently? It was a car and had tyres from china, and decals from Italy and I seem to recall plastic mouldings from some eastern european country (talk about multi sourcing BigGrin )

Not had to raise issue with Airfix for years and was looking for that little piece of paper they used to add for requesting replacement parts. Thing of the past and had to try and report the issue via their web site.

All that said it is a fairly annoying but minor issue and I think full credit to them for such a complex model. It certainly is not a beginners kit. Just wish now I had not passed up that mosquito kit they did Crying
Happy Modelling

BigGrin Hi Tony

Congrats on getting this Beasty, its only when you open the box that you realize that Airfix have taken a step up with this kit if only in the detail on the wings and fuselage skins.
The cannons are really for the Mozzy but will fit the Tiffy just be careful with the fitting as the plastic barrels in the kit are bent to enable them to fit the wing appertures, I think a way around it would be to glue the barrels in last and insert them from the front of the wing.
Sorry to hear about your canopy problems, but this is what i think happened, I think my version is the original version but after the complaints about the distortion towards the rear of the canopy they have done a thinner less detailed canopy that you have recieved.
My box also says 'Made in India' too and i have opted not to fit the electric motor as i thought the way the wires hang out the bottom of the fuselage didt appeal to me.
