In issue 10 we were given a mast holder. No reference has been made to its insertion into the model. There is a gap in the keel which I think is it's home but now the lower and middle gun decks are in position, I can't fix it. Is this an ommission in the instructions? If so, any ideas on what I can now do?

Hi Drake I can vaguely remember something about this a while ago being omitted from the instructions, although don't quote me on it as memory lately is on permenant holiday , it may have been mentioned in Tomicks "Official Build Diary". If it were me I would cut the piece in half, lengthways ie top to bottom, and then insert from either side underneath the lower gun deck and glue in place. Just my suggestion and I'm sure as the day goes on the more experienced will come up with other/easier ideas.

Hi Drake yes it should be marked 6 and should have been put in place when the ribs were all squared up and glued into place with the lower gun deck . As jamie has said carefully cut it in half and place iit in position under the middle of the lower gun deck that is about the only way you will get it into position now

Drake, I would agree with Jamie's solution to this one, and to strengthen it, glue some 5mm x 5mm square pieced of wood either side flush below the upper keel... Step 3 of issue 16 tells you to locate all frames into the false keel, the mast support frame part 6) is shown in place at step 5 on page 12.

The cut and shut method seems the only way to go at this stage. I asked the same question in the general discussion section some time ago under the heading "Mast Support" You may want to reinforce the glued joints with some scrap material for good measure making sure not to block the socket/hole. Good luck, it should turn out OK. PS. I seem to remember someone saying this model could not be built with the supplied instructions in the magazine. Without the official build diary and all the useful info given in this forum I would have abandoned the build a long time ago but as it is the Victory is looking good so far. Happy building to you all and thanks for all your help. CMB
