Hi All, I am going to interrupt the rigging at this stage and fit the stern lanterns. I have left them off until now as they are fairly delicate, and I really don’t want to damage them. The lanterns supplied with the kit are obviously a generic stock item and do not look anything like the lanterns in the movies. Some time spent with our beloved Rhino software and I had a lantern that closely resembles the ones on the Pearl. Thanks, again, to Mark, the owner of our company, for the opportunity to 3D print a set of lanterns. The bottom, cage section and top were resin printed and the ‘glass’ was filament printed using clear material. To light them I used a 5mm LED. I had some Ø2mm brass tube and as luck would have it, I couldn’t get both wires through. So, I soldered one leg of the LED to the brass tube – sorted!!! When I wired the cabin, I laid the wires for the lanterns. I glued the lanterns in and connected up the wires. I could only get white LED’s, so I gave them a couple of coats of GW Yellow ink. A pity they don’t match the rest of the lanterns. While everything was still loose, I painted the lantern using my standard recipe. Matt black followed by light grey dry brushing. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Garth You are so skilled. Those lanterns look brilliant how you have designed them. You might want to think about a return on your investment and put them up on shapeways. Not sure fully how it works but i think the designer gets a cut of any sales of products they host on there. Tony Happy Modelling

Part 09 The Yards Making up the yards is prety much as per the instructions. Once again the mini lathe was invaluble when turning down the ends. I painted them using the same recipe as for the rest of the model. Matt black folowed by a dry brush of greys. One suggestion though, I packed each set in separate plastic bag and marked them Foremast, Mainmast & Mizzen. If you are going to use my sails, then add the blocks as per my drawings. Remember, only download the _Large drawings if you are going to use them as a reference to build from – no point in wasting data. Impressive lathe work Garth. Always good to see someone that can use one of these to get both ends of the spar nice and even. My attempts in the past have never been ideal. Tony Happy Modelling
