Hi All, BigGrin BigGrin

I recently visited RAF Cosford, because they advertised an open week of their conservation centre.

What`s good about that, you might say:

Well I`ll tell you. Flapper Flapper

As far as I know, they have the only remains of a "Dornier Do17Z", a WW2 German Bomber, nicknamed "The Flying Pencil".

Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool

The remains were found off the coast of Kent (Goodwin Sands) and are being preserved at RAF Cosford.

Crying Crying Crying Crying

Now it was at this point, that I was going to post some cool pics of the preservation project as it stands to date.

"NOT ALLOWED"

The conservation centre do not allow use of pics, for anything other than personnel use.
Your pics are not allowed to be put on any social media site or any other site for that matter, so a member of their team pointed out, even if you are trying to give them free publicity.

Hey Ho!!

So,the point of this post is to group together a collection of sites that are on the web and somehow allowed to post info and pics for you to see.

Digital Imaging of the wreck on the seabed.

Daily Mail article on the recovery.

Dail mail report.

Cosford Museum website.

Behind the scenes:Diving the wreck.

Diving the Dornier

Wikipedia on RAF Cosford.

Now the conservation centre only opens for one week a year, so keep an eye on the web site if you want to pay a visit.

Admission is free for the main museum, with a charge for entry to the conservation centre and parking is charged.

There are plenty of links on these few sites I`ve posted, so info is available by the bucket load, just thought I`d give you a start if you were interested.

Now as this is a model builders forum predominately, whilst doing the little bit of research I came across a few kits of the flying pencil "Dornier".

One that struck me as a potential build in the future, (hopefully not to distant)was this original on ebay by the "Lindberg Line"company and the date of the kit reads 1967.

Here`s a box pic below, to tickle your taste buds.

This will be a straight from the box build, so as to replicate the original finish of the kit as depicted by the makers.

I hope you can get some inspiration for a visit to Cosford in the future.

Absolute minimum of three hours for the briefest of visits up to the full day if you want the "in depth" visit.

If you go "Hope you enjoy"

regards

Hi Alan,BigGrin

Thanks for looking in. Cool Cool

For the life of me, I cannot understand why they put down free publicity.

All the links show what great work is being done at Cosford, but the choice is theirs and they have copyright on their side and that can be an expensive beast to take on.

So, for now it`s the links only I`m afraid.

Unless I can work something else out after taking some further advise.
