Hi All,
Whilst on a research visit to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre the other day, I was passing the BBMF base at RAF Conigsby on my way home.
Never one to miss an opportunity, I ignored the SatNav and took a very short detour, to what turned out to be a great visit.
Only unfortunate thing is that like a previous visit I made to RAF Cosford, photos are for personnel use only and cannot be displayed in an open forum of any sort.
That aside, the visit can be highly recommended should you be in the area. You have to take a guided tour in the hanger, but the volunteer guides are fantastic and have a wealth of knowledge that they are very willing to share.
My visit coincided with the "Winter Maintenance" schedule, so lots of internal parts were on view.
Included in my visit were the following:
A couple of "Hurricanes"
Several "Spitfires" of differing Mk numbers
The "Lancaster" - (Thumper Three)
An array of fighter plane armament.
Several cut away engine displays
and
A "Chipmonk" trainer plane used to this day.
As I`m unable to show any pics of the day, I can but give you some links to the great museums that I`m talking about.
